I've been reading all of the posts on intakes, exhausts, etc. and the results look promising. What I'm really interested in, though, is trying to help with the relative hole off the line. Anything that helps midrange is a bonus.

Anyone that's done one or both of these have recommendations? While I'm at it. Thanks to Grinder and friends for putting up the mod list. Very helpful not having to sift through a million posts to find all of that stuff.

Jeff

I have done the following:

- MINI Madness Intake
- Borla Exhaust

But what I would recommend for better off the line accelleration is lighter wheels and tires. I have a set of white MINI R84 wheels with Yokohama AVS ES100 205/50 R16 tires. That set-up weighs 37 lbs per corner. The S-lites/R90s and run-flats weigh 50 lbs per corner. It does make a difference in accelleration. Plus, the tires have some give so the ride comfort is improved too.

Edited by DiD: another plus in favor of regular tires is their lower replacement cost compared to the run-flats.

I second the lighter unsprung weight (wheels and tires) idea.

The majority of the stock wheel/tire combos are heavyweights.

We aim to please

I couldn't agree more with the lighter tires/wheels. They're not only lighter, but grippier, and cheaper to replace! You cant go wrong. All-round perforamce increase. I'm not sure if anyone makes it yet, but it seems like a lower 1st gear would certainly help...but it might be sort of expensive to get at to replace.

Re: lower first gear

I'm sure it would help off the line, and this is just kindof a side note, but that First gear ratio is SWEET if you ever have to drive in bumper-to-bumper traffic. But of course, that isn't the point, so I'll drop my $.02 and go home.

Any lighter rotating weight items on the car will be of a benifit to you. Lighter wheels & tires, lighter clutch, flywheel, driveshaft, pulley(s), etc. Lighter and smaller pulleys seem to really help, in my experiences.
Cheers,

I got my wheels from Classic Auto Campus At the time they were right about $500 shipped for the 4 v-spokes. I think the prices have gone up slightly since when I purchased my wheels, but it should still be cheaper to go through Classic vs. buying them through your dealer.

Then I purchased my tires from the tire rack. The 205/50 R16 size of the Yokohama AVS ES100 tires runs about $75 each.

Look for the new UR Ultra S lightened crank pulley for more midband torque and HP.

Wondering if you guys would be interested in a Ulra S Mini Cooper Crank pulley group purchase(40 orders need for deep discount of up to 25% off list)
