Whats the difference between 2.25 and 2.5 exhaust

Ive been researching exhaust systems and I notice that some are 2.25 and some are 2.5 so Im wondering how the diameter would affect the hp and torque . I know 3 is too big and the power band shifts higher in the rpm band which I personally dont want but would .25in make any real difference?

If you are part of a professional race team or striving to break or set records the answer is =YES. Smaller diameter in this case will deliver faster expulsion of spent gases but the average driver won't know whereas the pro racer will. The different sizes will facilitate your clamping choices.
On another tack - would you like the electric exhaust cutouts found on the new Jags, then you could use an exhaust dump made specificly for a Mustang mated to the MINI system in the deleted resonator area. Sizing affords this as a NO weld ,slip fit installation.
No. you cannot run a flamethrower exhaust with a MINI.

The difference is 0.928 square inches of area, an increase of 23.3%. Folks like MILLTEK, STRATMOSPHERE AND MAGNAFLOW wouldn't spend the extra money on added material cost if it didn't produce results. Granted, the improvement is relatively small but everything adds up.

Rather than spending the extra money on mods we switched from a 250# racer to one that is a mere 150# and shaved off a full 1/4 second in our quarter mile times.
FACETIOUS might be the only word that the vowels are in order. This may decrease reaction time.

That's exactly the question here, isn't it? Perhaps there is no improvement at all, not even "relatively small".

My thought is that marketing has produced exactly the intended effect.
"I'm going make an exhaust that's a little bigger. It will stand out from the others and people will think it's a little better".
Unless there is documented and measured improvement of 2.5" over 2.25", it's all marketing. Don't forget also that you should be looking at the complete catback exhaust package, not just the diameter of the tube.

rkw has a point in that, without a tuned header to go with that cat-back exhaust, performance improvements will be minimal at best. isamin is also on the right track by reducing driver's weight...and in the vehicle.
