Hi. Newbie here. Looking at picking up a 2002 base with a blown 5 spd. I ran across a deal on a 2005 Getrag 5 spd. Will this work? A friend thought so but also thought there was an issue getting cruise to work. Anyone done this? Seems a lot easier than the 6 spd S conversion. TIA, Ron.

No, it is the same effort converting to a Getrag, whether 5 or 6 speed.

No...not unless you replace lots of parts....cv joints, flywheel, starter, etc...
Keep looking.
You want another Midlands 5 speed unless you want a $$$$ project.

A really good site to use is www.car-part.com. I've found plenty of used parts in good working condition for my vehicles over the years on there. You may have luck with finding a used transmission there. If you need any other small bits and pieces please don't hesitate to let me know.

Sorry, just getting back. He shipped me a rebuilt transmission w/ clutch, pressure plate, and throw out bearing; total cost $1200.00 to my door. Not bad considering what they cost over here. My plan is to change the gear oil at least once a year. He recommended filling the "new" box through the vent on top a full 2 liters. Once you get the battery tray out, it's a lot easier. Good oil fill and frequent service is the life of a Midlands apparently.
