K&N vs Alta cold air intake?

Hello MINI lovers! Recently bought a 2011 MCS and was wondering if all aftermarket cold air intakes perform about the same? I have always been the type of driver that enjoys motoring with the radio off and listening to the motor. Improving the sound 1st and performance 2nd is my motivation for the upgrade. I had an Alta on my 1st gen MCS and loved it, but I have found a K&N system for sale locally new for sale for a great deal. Any feedback on the 2 would be appreciated.

I've never had any specific experience with these two but in my opinion I would look for something that actually has an air box... The k&n as well as the alta delete the airbox and have a filter open in the engine bay. I personally don't like this design because heat soak can become an issue faster than it does on others. I personally use a DOS intake but they are hard to find.... DOS also makes the best sound as it uses a hole in the firewall for a secondary air intake. Intakes don't really help with power unless used with other mods so I wouldn't pick based on manufacturer claims of power. Choose based on the sound u like.

I've never been a huge fan of K&N, personally. All just personal preference. Some info on Alta HERE. Alta gives info at post #18 for your 2011. Just to add options to look at, maybe consider aFe HERE and possibly M7 HERE.
