Drivetrain 335i intercooler upgrade
335i intercooler upgrade
Hi guys! This is my first post so be gentle.. I work at a large body shop in Orlando. We often get BMW's in my shop but most are too damaged to get good parts from. I've hit gold this week because there's a 335i that had severe front my end damage but the internet cooler was almost almost perfect. The only damage was that the plastic tab had a small crack. The insurance wrote for the new one and now I have a free intercooler! :D a little repair and im good to go. I have a couple of questions for you guys though. How much of the front bumper can I safely cut off? Also would the gains be worth cutting the bumpert? I'm getting a super ags intake in about a week, I already have a better rear muffler and a noice maker delete.
Thanks!

You can safely cut away all of your front bumper cover, just don't cut into the actual bumper. Please post a picture after you do this. I'd really like to see how it looks - thinking of doing this myself for no real reason other than it can be done. Whatever you do, don't cut into your bumpert! I've heard that the ags intake is the way to go, that and having a rear muffler! I don't know about a noice maker though. I guess it depends on what a noice maker does but I am sure it is good for 10-20 more hp!
Cool, an internet cooler! I've been looking for one myself! You're a lucky guy... you sure did hit gold!

Which eBay intercooler did you order? Many eBay coolers function equivalently to or less efficiently than the stock cooler.
Helix just totally redesigned their intercooler, with numbers to back it up.

It's just the typical r56 intercooler. It basically looks like a forge unit. I'm really just interested in seeing the results since there's been a lot of debate on this subject on the forums. I have an extended warranty on my car until I get to 120,000 miles. So besides a tune this is how far I'll be going on the engine. I'm going to try to tackle the fenders to see if I can stretch them out with a heat gun to fit my new wider tires.
