Dinan ECU upgrade

I just got it. noticed a considerable amount of power increase with no other mods. Throttle respons from 2,000 on up was greatly improved. It is supposed to raise the red line to 7,300 but my tac did not adjust like I thought it was going to. Not sure if is supposed to or not but I heard it would. It's my birthday today so I will test it more tomarrow.

Can you share some more info on the Dinan Intake please RSpeed?
I am really interested in it because of its stock look.

Thanks,
Alex

I'm also very interested in the intake. How does does sound compared to stock? or compared to an Alta. Those are the 2 I am considering, leaning towards the Dinan for the Stealth look.
Also, does the dealership have to install it, or can you just buy the part and DIY.
thanks,

how does the ecu work, is there upgrades/re-flashes for the various mods you do to the car?

Here is my reply to a PM that was sent to me, I think it says it all so copy it here!

Re: Dinan CAI

I Installed it myself but I have not been able dyno it.

I am not a big believer of dynos figures with modern OBD 2 Cars; give me a tire preasure gauge and I will show any dyno figure you like.

I am also know for telling it like it is which gets me in all sorts of trouble.

I am more in tune to what I call Dyno Butt.

My Dyno Butt tells me that my Mini runs about as strong withthe A/C on as it did with it off and a bit peppier with out .

The Super charger whine sounds nice but civililzed but what I really like is that it looks like it came with the car; factory!

It is made out of non heat soaking plastic which makes it stand out from the rest of the metal rigs.

I have been selling other intake kits at R Speed for over 2 years and I never found one that I felt was not cobbled up back woods style; so I have never changed mine till now as I am very picky. I still like the BMP a lot except for it is metal which most people really do not mind.

98% percent of this this thing looks factory and it is 98% perfect; which is why companies like Dinan are considered the Big Boys.

Even though it combines the use of the factory lower, I can guess Dinan wrote a big fat check for the upper mold fees; I have purchased rotational molds in the past and I can tell you with this kind of detail was not cheap.

At this point I am not sure if we will sell these or other Dinan products unless we can buy them direct for Dinan.

I have another one in stock and you can have it for its regular selling price of $249.95; I bought it for not much less.

Otherwise, Dinan stuff is usually available through BMW Dealers.

If you have any other questions call me, or want to chat about it some more anyone can call me.

I think if you are looking to preserve factory parts and looks you will be real happy.

Best regards

Joseph

The Dinan ECU upgrade is a flash. I was looking over the techs shoulder as he was installing it. There was a screen for changes based on what you had on the car thier were 4 options I belive one was cold air one was exhaust, throttle body I think was one and the last one stock. I'm guessing it is based on what comes with the dinan stage 1 kit plus throttle body. Last night on way to dinner I tested the rev limiter. It was somewhere over 7,000 before it cut out on me but it still has not changed my redline in my tac. I am going to go back today and talk to the tech to see what he says. I did manage to reach 50plus mph in first gear trying to get the revlimiter to kick in. Oh yeah it changed my exhaust signature as well, a little more bass/full sound (this comment was made by my girlfriend)

An ecu reprogram will not "adjust" the lighted red area of your tach. The red lines you see are lit by the same led.

So would the Ecu flash benifit me since i have the 15% pulley or would it be better for me to just get the unichip? Im just curious to see which route would be better for a car that has pulley. I know the Dinian package dosnt come with a pulley but im in the market for ECU upgrade and there flash is fairly cheap compared to Unichip and others.

Dude, the redline on your tach is permanent. That won't change no matter what you change your rev-limiter to.

What happens if you go to the dealer from whatever repairs and the flash the ECU to the latest rev. Will Dinan/dinan dealers reflash the ecu for a nominal fee or free?

Fee unless you grease the Dinan guy like I did :p I just put the cold air intake on and he is going to flash and upgrade it for me for free. I'll most likely have to pay for the next one seeing as how it will be while before I get the exhaust. I'll report my findings of the upgrade and cold air after I get it flashed.
