Drivetrain alta and uni
alta and uni
http://unifilter.com/automotive.htm
at uni's site, scroll down to the cone shaped filters (typical CAI style)
now, compare that to http://www.jscspeed.com/mini/intake/alta_intake.htm
.....thoughts?
i havent seen an alta CAI up close, but if someone can tell me if the alta's filter has a thing like that on top, and/or if the overall length is about 8", that would also be helpful. I couldnt find a place that had the dimensions of the alta.
I dont see why uni's filter wouldnt be just as good in flow than the alta. If the dimensions and the top part are the same, i'm gonna wonder...
i'm not saying that the alta and the uni are the same thing. i'm just wondering if the fit and dimensions are the same, and if so, would there be a reason why i would pay $200 instead of $45? $200 will get me the alta filter, and the heatshield and a couple misc things. $45 will get me the filter, and me modifying the airbox so it will fit, in case it doesnt. If the uni was shorter, i'd think about applying it as an HAI, but at $70 for a neato tube from outmotoring, and $45 for a uni filter that looks a lot like (and should perform just as well)... why would i buy the alta?
fairly happy with the HAI, but i've finally caught on to the idea that foam is better than cotton.

As I understand it, the Alta filter IS a UNIfilter. I didn't look at the dimentions but, I'm sure you can find a direct UNIfilter replacement. That being said, I still prefer my Alta CAI set-up as it does allow cold air into the filter box from both the cowel area and the stock front air intake tube which comes up from the bottom of the filter box. Double Wammy? Hell... who knows
I know it does make some power and sounds great
