Blown Head Time

Well, looks like I've found my excuse to finally go for a better breathing head (head gasket fail). There's never good time to spend big dollars unexpectedly but unfortunately really not great time.
Have a couple places in mind but been years since following all threads on this subject. Help point me in right direction. May anyone have one needing new home?

Mods: (Daily spirited driver)

Future:
Full rebuild/trans

Opinions welcomed & HappyHolidays!

There's a company that shall not be named that makes a really good big valve head.

^This is the internet.
Sure there's been plenty of Jabber (harsh words) between stuff.
Contacts, threads or just PM me is fine.

I'm guessing Audio is referring to Jan and RMW (Revolution MINI Works http://www.revolutionmotorworks.com).

I joined NAM after that brouhaha had settled but never have heard what went down or why...nor do I really care.

That's aside the point, which is: Jan does great work on MINIs and sells great parts, including a big valve head (BVH). I've bought parts from Jan, and he's tuned my car. I'm a witness, and a believer. Check out his website -- you'll find contact info there -- or you can find RMW on Facebook too. PM me if you want more info.

Edit: don't run just cuz his website ain't the slickest. Give him a call or email him as I believe he sells some parts not listed on the product page.

That is exactly who I was referring to. And yes he sells way more stuff than is on his site. His site blows.

I am a believer as well. Built motor, cam, tune.

I was just about to ask what your numbers are & saw your dyno sheet. Nice WHP & TQ! I'm pretty happy with my setup (shorty header, Dominator cam, 450s, tune) especially for a DD, but you guys running a BVH, stroker, or built motor kinda get me all jealous & stuff

Thanks, I'm really happy with it. One day I will get a bvh and header, I still have a stock head and exhaust. The mini is currently my dd.

Those are the two I stick with. I got my pulley, exhaust, CAI, and strut tower plates from Way, the header, injectors, and cam from RMW. You can get different stage packages and parts from other vendors -- there are many as you probably know -- but those are the two I've used for aftermarket stuff. Detroit Tuned and Helix also seem to have good reps in the MINI community, tho I've never done business with either. For OEM parts there are some good options, eMINIParts is one I've used for some body trim clips.

Dunno where you're at, but if you're on the west coast you'd be closer to Jan (he's in Irvine, CA) which would be great especially if you wanna get your car tuned. He does tune parties on occasion at places like Philly and Orlando, but it's well worth the time and money to have him work his magic if you can.

Yeah NewEngland would be far travel for Jan. Shux. Unfortunately, I've just installed new 380cc JCW injectors not knowing this issue would arise at this point. So the debate is now Way's with 380cc or Jan's setup with 450 or 550cc & suggested Dominator Cam unless something else comes up. What the difference between 450-550cc injectors needs more investigation for just spirited DD.

Anyone needing 380cc JCW injectors with less than 100mi let me know.

Yeah, that would be a hike. He's usually at the annual MINIs on the Dragon event each year and does flash tunes there. I know he also does remote tunes which might work for you. While not quite as good as a dyno tune, that'd get you most of the way there.

I'm on 450s and as far as I know you won't need the 550s, I don't recall how far you can go on the 450s though. Jan would be the final answer on that.

Seems like he comes to helix once or twice a year for tune parties. He also does remote tunes. You can even try to organize a tune party in your area, you'd have to ask him how many people it would take to get him out. I think it was 5 and a shop with a dynapak dyno? Don't quote me though.

Kind of a bummer about buying the new injectors then having this happen.

Friday, that is the setup I hope to have once I get everything else sorted, do you have any idea on whp? I've done my searching but it just took me to old "heated' threads. How long have you been on that setup? Thanks!

I finished the setup in late September, when I added the header & 450s, got the tune. (Got the cam in May, everything else last year or year before.)

The day of my dyno tune was 90+ degrees & high humidity (speed shop was in Orlando) on a Mustang dyno known to read low. My car made 216 WHP/192 lb ft TQ. With cooler weather & a different dyno, the numbers could've been higher but all in all I'm still really pleased : ))
