Drivetrain timing advance and boost issues
timing advance and boost issues
So i have had my JB+ on my GP at 40% for couple months and running great. I have never really monitored my boost or timing as the car has been pulling hard and running great. Always fill up with Chevron 94 oct here in Canada. So i just installed a catless DP and decided to get a can tool and also downloaded the Torque App to monitor. Here is the issues I'm having.
Running 3rd at 3000rpm my timing is hovering around 30 and boost is in the minus, as soon as i hit WOT all the way to 6000 rpm timing drops to 0 and boost max is 2 psi.....
So i turned down the JB to 30% and got the same results but . Im not getting any knock and car seems to be pulling hard and running good..... So I'm just letting car sit for 15 so i can remove the JB and take it for a run. Could i have got bad gas? I did run dash command with my iPhone for a short period a while ago and was getting average 18 psi. Any help and advise would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

So just went out for drive with out JB installed.i switched to using dascommand and Boost went up to 19 at WOT so maybe i didn't have the torque app set up wright. But Timing still goes down to 0 when at WOT in 3rd and 4th...

That dose not sound good at all.
When I monitor timing via CAN tool or Dash Command AP, my timing does drop to Zero when pedal initially hits WOT. I believe that is because there is a brief switch from ST Fuel Trim to LT Fuel Trim. Not exactly sure. However, I immediately see a progressive climb in timing usually from 2,3,4,5 deg and so on. Highest I see on average is between 6-8 deg, with JB+ and 93 Octane. only time I see deviations is mostly due to road conditions, I.e. Bumps, hills, etc...

.Im fairly new to this stuff but have been reading for up inn this for days and not sure what i should try. I thought about or ding some Torco Accelerator to bump up the octane and see how the timing is.
I'm running chevron 94 octane and JB+ at 30%.only other mod is DP. If i don't go wide open throttle and just slowly accelerate up to say 6000 rpm it will go up but if i just floor it it drops to 0

Next best thing would be to run some E85. That allowed folks like Mario Kart to run the JB+ upward toward 100% with great results. Torco might help, but I believe there is another issue besides octane, if your timing was not increasing even with the JB+ uninstalled. When you uninstalled the JB+ did you let the DME sleep for 15min? And did you drive it around uninstalled for 50 plus miles. It takes the DME some time to re-adjust the fuel trims after installing & uninstalling the JB+. I guess that's the draw back with having a plug & play Tune...

Just went and filled up with fresh 94 fuel and did a quick run.
second gear from cruising 3000 rpm to WOT all the way to 6500 rpm my timing goes up to 3 to 4 degrees when i shift to 3rd timing drops to 0 and stays there until i hit about 6000 rpm then it goes up to 4

I may be wrong, but I do remember Terry stating that the JCW and GP folks needed to turn down the JB+ to like 30%. But, You have it set there.

.... lol
Jb+ works by falsely reporting airflow. This will cause a lean situation until fuel trims adjust.
You are not seeing timing advance due to leaning out...
Edit: 5 miles after Installing or after uninstalling? If after uninstall, you would be pig rich for a while.

Can you do a data log. Seems like what ever monitoring device you are using is displaying timing at a delayed rate... Hopefully that's the culprit

Im using dash command but i do have a can tool to try.I know the dash command is delayed...hmmm good point guess i will hook up the can tool and try
There is a small delay when shifting. I think tomorrow morning i will hook up my can tool and try it. If nothing then i will unplug the JB and drive like i stole it for at least 50 miles then check. Thanks for all you help on this guys!!!!!
Keep us posted...
Well after puting in a fresh tank of fuel and plugging in my cantool I went for a good rip. So after a dozen wide open pulls in 2nd 3rd and 4th inwas seeing 18.5 for boost and 4.5 degrees in timing. So things seem happy! I'm running my JB at 30% on 94 octane with a DP from Mario! (Mario's DP is unbelievable!!) I guess mYbe I had some bad gas? Anyways I found out there is a dealer close by that has unleaded oxingaded 99octane so think I will buy 5 gallons and try mixing it to raise the octane to 95.i looked into adding Torco accelerator but getting it shipped to Canada would be to high.
