I think if someone did do this, weather should be a factor. Like with it on, do it in cold weather and warm weather to see how much gain is made. Then without it, just stock box, in cold and warm weather to compare.

Agreed. Air density will certainly play a small factor in gains or losses. Also, has anyone ever installed an temp sensor after the turbo but before the FMIC? I'd be interested to see how the temps vary with Ambient temp. Again what the temps read during Cold VS Warm weather. Just so we see how much, or how little, ambient temps play part in post turbo temps

You should ask ra2fanatic as he had to switch to the JCW CAI because turbo inlet fitting issues.

I'm aware he had an issue. In fact he said he would still be running the AEM intake if it wasn't for it slipping off the larger turbo inlet.

While at the same time not messing around with my MPG, or ruining the motor. I've looked on the market at several different systems, and they all seem fairly similar. My main concern with something like the k&n typhoon system is that it will be sucking in warm hot engine heat while sitting in Boston traffic, and while just going down the road 55pmh+

And I'm worried that if I remove the hood scoop grill, that it will allow rainwater to get into the system and ruin the motor, not to mention hert my MPG, does anybody have any experience with a system like this, or removing their hood scoop grill without damaging anything? And does a system like this actually improve MPG.

Please any input will help
If that's all you want, take a listen to the exhaust video I linked to my exhaust thread. I made that intake in like 30 minutes with a couple of extra parts and a K&N cone filter. Even if you went out and bought everything new at the parts store, you'd have less than $100 into it. I spent another ten bucks on the chunk of 2" exhaust tubing that I used to replace the intake muffler.

I removed my hood scoop grille at the same time that I installed my intake, which was a year ago. No issues with driving in the rain, or anything having to do with hot intake temps. The one thing I did notice is my car dropped from 14 psi to 9-11 psi when it got cold (I have a mechanical boost gauge). I don't know if that's typical of these cars or not, and I didn't try going back to the stock air box to see if it changed anything. The boost came back with the warm weather.

I would suspect that a CAI will actually cost you a few MPGs when it gets cold out, although I'm not sure.
