05 MCS needs lower gear ratios ASAP

Ive got a 2005 mini cooper s all stock. One thing ive noticed in the time ive had it is the high rpm's in 6th gear, or the high rpm's all around for that matter.

I'd really love to just be able to swap out the stock 1.089 (3.13) ratio 6th gear for something that will keep the rpm's down, fuel consumption down, and temp down.

My best option so far is this wonderfully expensive dog engagement kit

but i'm only in the market to swap the final gear.

does anyone know if this is possible? if so, let me know everything you have to say about this.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that R53 transmissions were interchangeable, allowing you to use one of the longer ratio transmissions offered in pre-2004 MCS'.

Oh, and my god...dog-box engagement is silly. No syncros at all. I had a full straight-cut gear AND dog-box transmission in an old car I built. It got old fast...

I'm 90% sure the FINAL gear ratio on the pre facelift and the facelift cars are the same....
The spacing of the gears were adjusted to be closer at the lower end.....
And the op is looking for a HIGHER top gear....aka lower rpms in cruise....
And the higher rpms in ALL GEARS are due to the lack of tourqe due o the r53's basic engine design.....peak tq in the stock setup is 4500 rpm....
Not sure you will be able to push a bigger gear (higher gear) than the current 6th gear....the auto CAN do this.....

Based on this, swapping a Pre-Facelift transmission wouldn't help keep 6th gear RPM's low. It would help in all other gears, but not 6th. Bummer.
