Who is using a restrictor? Read on another mini forum it was suggested to not use one.

Systemlord 04-26-2014 02:15 PM

Question, how do you tune for meth? Would you just go for a Batte tune stage 2 and simply mention you're running meth?

I am, 0.7 mm coupled with a 0.6 mm jet. Restrictors are useful to dial in the desired flow rate, I don't think they are good or bad.

I believe a good starting point for flow rate is 20% of total injector flow. So if stock injectors are 400cc (I couldn't find a good number for this), multiply by 4 to get 1600. 20% of 1600 is 320cc. I measured 275cc, so I'm a little low but I'm fine with that for now.

I think it's best to start out low and work up.

Today I got all the wires to the ECU ( did not make any connections yet) all the wires into the cabin, installed the FAV, installed the jet adapter and installed the gauge. All I have left is to make the connections at the ECU and make the positive battery connection.

Agbullet25 04-26-2014 11:23 PM

That's where I was thinking to install the gauge if I got this system. Just out of curiosity and because it's late and I'm being lazy, is there a MINI-specific install guide for the system?

There is. It comes with the kit. It is for the R56 so my install was slightly different since I have a Countryman. Overall 95% accurate. Only difference was the tank.

let's post some pics of how our controllers are mounted. I'm curious to see how other people mounted their controller.

here's mine:

Controller or gauge?

Does the vent pod swivel or is it fixed?

The controller mainly but I'd like to see some gauges too.

Almost done

Looks good. How big is the tank?

I ended up Velcro'ing the controller box to the ceiling of the glove box. Can't even see it when you open the glove box.

wzabrouski 04-28-2014 01:58 PM

2 gallons. I velcro'd the controller to the door of the in cabin filter door underneath the dash.

Recent logging shows that the intake cooling effects are drastically reduced when the humidity is high. The other morning it was misty with a relative humidity around +95% and the IAT was only about 5 F degrees below ambient. Where normally it would be closer to 20 F degrees below ambient.

I had never really thought about it before but it does make sense. Maybe I'm just stating the obvious.

Currently I'm using 100% methanol and I'm waiting for a 80 F, low humidity day to log a run to compare to my 80% and 95% methanol runs. Then I get data for 50/50 mix.

What tools were required for installation? Will be ordering soon.
Also being over $1,000, it doesn't come with a gauge pod?

For tools you will need a drill, drill bit and tap. Howerton sell the tap and drill bit, buy it from him. A basic drill bit set would be nice. This is to install the jet in the charge pipe.

A standard set of metric wrenches and screw drivers. Nothing special required.

Gauge pod is not included.

Cool. Do you know which sizes of the drill bit and tap that I need? Thanks again.

c0op3r 05-11-2014 09:48 AM

1/8"-27 NPT Tap
11/32" Drill Bit
7/8" Drill Bit

I got my parts from Amazon as I am a Prime Member and get free shipping, I did not need the 7/8" Bit.

If you are going to Drill and Tap in place, I would also get some heavy grease. You will fill the Drill Bit and the Tap with grease to catch the metal shavings.

Actually, when you order the kit, I'll be happy to mail the tap and bit (used only once) to you free of charge, I have no further need of them.

That would be great! I just bought a kit.

Has anyone done the install on an R60/Countryman? Finally got around to the final step of making the ECU connections and the instructions from the R56 seemed different.

Step 3 is the MAP sensor. On the top connector, the instructions on page 23 stated the middle connector? But the diagram shows the connection on the X60232 connector. Also, why does it look like pin 31 has a plug/blank in it and not a wire?

Any help would be appreciated. I stopped once I saw this to make sure I was making the correct connections.

cerenkov 05-18-2014 08:53 AM

My install was on a R56 but I think they are the same connectors as the R60. I followed the diagram in the back of the manual exactly and only used the photos as "guidance". There are no connections to be made in the middle connector. Only the first and third connectors.

Here's a photo of my connector:

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-I...o/IMG_4359.jpg

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-H...o/IMG_4358.jpg

Note that the connector has more rows on it then shown in the diagram. I just counted from the end where #1 starts and all the colors matched up perfectly with what is shown in the diagram. Make sure that you are counting and identifying #31 correctly (use the colors as reference - they should match up exactly as shown in the diagram).

Triple check everything.
