Long time forum reader, first time post'er.

I've searched on the forum and haven't seen this addressed yet. If I'm wrong, please let me know where to find it. Here goes:

I'm not looking to do a cold air intake for my 2011 Cooper S, just an air filter replacement. So, I picked up the part at local autoparts shop and it was $10.95. Turns out it's the wrong size. Found the correct one that is $70.54. WHAT??? You must be joking!! After examining both, they look and feel like the same material, only the fitment is different. Why the obscene difference in price???

Seeing this horrible scam, I'm reaching out to know if anyone here has found a alternative filter model that fits and is reasonably priced. If not, I plan to design a "frame" to accommodate a similar shaped panel filter that is priced more realistically to fit in the factory airbox.

Let me know what solutions have worked for you.

Here is the OEM MINI air filter for the Stock R56 Cooper S, Fits R57 Cooper S Convertibles, R55 Clubman S, and R60 MINI Countryman S/ SX. There are also the aftermarket and performance options. I don't know what they gave you, but sometimes there cross ref system does not show the right models.

You are not going to see a filtration or performance increase going to a performance brand filter, I'd get the MINI or MAHLE filter from ECS. Cheaper, good paper filter, flows as well as you're going to need ever.
