I would add a water/meth injection system instead of the FMIC especially if you have easy access to M1 methanol. You get tremendous cooling, octane boost, and eliminate all carbon build up. And the installation is much easier than the FMIC (imho).

i think the carbon buildup argument is still up for debate, but i agree, water/meth injection is a solid performance mod.

Sorry for the slow response, guys. I don't have any new information at the moment, but I did send an e-mail to one of the reps at HG Motorsports. They are pretty good at getting back to me, so hopefully I'll have something for you guys in a bit.

no need to apologize! =) curious, what mods do you have on your car right now? and do you plan on doing just a tune? or are you thinking about adding other parts in advance of the tune?

I have a Countryman S. My only drivetrain mods are a VIP downpipe-back exhaust, an Akrapovic DP, and an aFe filter. I also have a Forge intercooler on there but I am planning to swap it out for a TyrolSport intercooler before I tune. I don't have plans for any additional mods other than the intercooler.

what's the reason behind swapping the forge for the tyrolsport? is there a significant difference b/w the IATs of the two? i've had the alta fmic on my car for a while now. the numbers i've been getting on it is 3* over ambient temp, which i thought was pretty standard amont all the fmics.

I think I am being shortchanged on the performance because much of the intercooler that would be exposed on an R56/57/58/59 is hidden behind the front bumper on the R60. Since the TyrolSport consumes the whole front end, it nullifies the differences in grille placement on the R60 vs. R56/57/58/59 Coopers. That's my rationale.

But I won't lie: I've been tempted to sell the R60, buy a JCW R56, slap on a Helix/Forge FMIC, DoS intake, Akrapovic turbo-back exhaust, oil cooler, meth kit, grab a dyno tune, and call it a day.

If you go that route go pre-owned, maybe even Mini certified...but for sure a pre 02/12 build I'm just sayin'

Or how about this beauty:

Supposedly it's for sale right here in SoCal

ahh...make sense. yeah, the wrc countryman either uses the tyrolsport fmic, or something that looks a lot like it.
i like the idea of having meth, but i don't like the idea of constantly refilling the meth. i know it's not all that much work, but still seems to be a pain in the butt. i'm surprised that you like the DoS intake - no one's really reported any significant gains with that mod.

From what I've been hearing a CAI does not have as much of an effect on HP gains as it does on the 'ear dyno' Basically it sounds great but less additional power thrilling.

The FMIC is the #1 part replacement gainer and gets even more help with a tune. Those are the two biggest power for the buck mods.

Alright gents, an update for you:

I've been in touch with the rep at HG and they are debating whether it would be worth it for them to make the necessary updates so they can do remote RennTech dyno tunes. An alternative option they are exploring is the possibility of offering several custom tunes to suit your mods. They are very familiar with the various mods and what they do to the car, and are pretty confident they can create tune files to suit different mods, especially the more popular ones (e.g., the Akrapovic or catless DPs that everyone seems to be running).

For those of you with extensive modifications (looking at you, Porthos), I know this will be a bummer. But if you might be interested in a custom tune option, please e-mail Blake directly (bwarren <at> hgmotorsports <dot> com) to let him know you're interested. Also, please send him a list of your mods so he can get a sense of what sorts of tuning options they would make available. If you e-mail him, you're under no obligation to tune with them; he's just trying to get a sense of the potential interest at this point. Thanks!

any idea when they're going to decide whether or not they're going to do remote tunes? i just put a new car on order, so if this doesn't happen, i guess it won't be the end of the world - cash ain't burning a hole in my pocket right now! too bad we can't get any love for the n18s!

Not sure. I would definitely consider contacting them if you are interested so they can truly gauge interest. It's really a cost/benefit decision for them at this point, which is understandable. Custom tunes seem to occupy a middle ground between a canned tune and a dyno tune. Since people love even canned tunes (NM) I imagine a good custom mod-minded tune would be a blast.

Good luck. I've emailed Renntech about services twice and got no response either time. And I can probably jog there in about 20 minutes. I've even tried to contact them through their youtube channel. I guess they don't want my money. Who likes money? Money is for idiots.
