Hey all,
I like to keep close tabs on my cars' engines with UOAs, and this new MINI is no exception. It was pretty much what I was expecting, loads of wear metals since it's a new engine. I'm definitely glad to have changed it early. I've always been a big fan of getting factory fills out early, but I decided to let this one go for a bit since MINI claims it's fine to go to 10k. We'll see how the next one looks at the 10k mark. I am running Motul X-Cess 8100 currently. I'll probably switch to the new fancy Mobil 1 0w40 after this run. I would have probably put it in for this change, if I had noticed that they reformulated it and that it was so robust. Blackstone listed it as supercharged, but this is clearly an R55 with an N18.

Interesting. I'm glad I got mine changed at about 5k miles...MINI will change your oil once a year or every 10k, evidently.
What is this "new" & fancy Mobil 1 0W40? I've been using it for years on my other car. Did they change something?

Their new API SN spec oil has had some changes, and meets all of the latest manufacturer specs that you'd expect it to see. I believe they call it "New Life" elsewhere in the world, but it's just M1 0w40 European Formula with an SN label here.Originally Posted by JPR18
