Drivetrain Quick question on Milltek QuickFit cat-back
Does the kit come complete with all the nuts and bolts needed
to do the install?
If not, what size nut & bolt do I need?
I read RandyWebb's review and did a search here, but could not find
this info.
Thanks.

ditto on the fully included kit.
one trick - assemble the whole thing before trying to put it on the car. Push the slip-fit ALL THE WAY IN - this will give optimal tip alignment with the rear valence. Use lots of the included assembly paste, and double check all your torquing. Don't freak out when the car smells BAD for the first few minutes, it's the assembly paste burning out (and forming a seal), plus all the manufacturing yukkies.
you'll dig!

kenchan,
I ordered mine from Stratmosphere and days after installing it they shipped me the gaskets to install versus the paste. Make sure you get these before installing to save yourself a second time under the car. I agree with Ryephile on the tip alignment. Make sure you push these all the way towards the front of the car before tightening or you will have 3-4" of tips sticking out after it gets warmed up! The system moves about 2 inches when hot versus cold. If you push the tips flush with the rear valence they will stick out perfect when the exhaust heats up. I also had to bend the exhaust hanger, closest to the driver's rear tire, to get the tips to line up perfectly in the middle. This may have been an issue with my stock hanger or the hanger on the muffler got bent.
Congrats on a great exhaust purchase!

kenchan,
Mine originally shipped with the paste and that's how I installed it. A few days later Stratmosphere shipped me the proper gaskets to use between the front pipe/cat and the rear section/mid-pipe. The gaskets are made of something other than metal like the factory gaskets. I called Stratmosphere after they arrived asking what I should do with them, since I had already used the paste, and they said "install them." I think the paste was working fine but there is a reason why they are using the gaskets now. The only bad thing about the paste is if it breaks apart you will get a pinhole leak. The new gaskets will prevent that from ever happening. If you ordered this from Stratmosphere then just confirm they are shipping the new systems with the gaskets. It only took me about 30 minutes to swap these out. The paste fell right off when I loosened the bolts.

kenchan,
No need for the paste since the gaskets were included. If you have problems centering the tips check the hangers to make sure they weren't bent during shipping, that seemed to be the problem with mine. Let me know if you have any problems or questions installing.

Question for you Milltek owners:
Worth it? I could get a Borla Race for quite a bit cheaper, but it's slightly louder than I want. I COULD live with it, though. It's so shiny....mmmm. BUT I like the looks and the performance rants I've heard about the Milltek, too. Just wonder what fun I could have for the $150 difference...

Jason, thanks for the input.
I can already tell that one of the hanger is bent when looked at from
the side... so I'll be bending that back first... will put everything on
without tightening the bolts first to align everything.
never had to do that on my other exhausts..

I got the Milltek installed....took me 3 frikken hours because the hangers
were too short and could not clear the aero-bumper so had to go to the
autoparts store to get some hangers. Unfortunately they didn't have a
long hanger, only about 1/4 longer at most...and they only had 3.

kenchan,
Forgot you had the aero kit on your MCS. The other option you have is to add spacers (washers) to the factory hangers to give you the desired height. The other problem, I believe, is that the aero bumper may stick out further where the tips exit. You may need to keep the tips out a bit to sit flush with the bumper. The tips will move almost two inches out when hot so plan accordingly. It took me several attempts to get the tips perfect so they weren't sticking out 4 inches when hot. The sleeve joint doesn't require the paste and hand tightening the clamp is perfect. I would work on spacing the hangers to give you more room between the rear bumper and the top of the tips. All you need are longer bolts and some washers to accomplish that.
Took me about the same time just to get the old exhaust free of the rubber hangers. Not fun!

Jason- thanks again for your help.
You're right, I should've just used washers between the chassis and the outside
hanger brackets. doh! I will give that a shot if my current setup doesn't work
out. I should go to a muffler shop to see if they have longer hangers too...
Also thanks on the sleeve and hand torquing the clamp. I read that it
should be around 35ft/lbs torque (?). I think Im at about that right now but
will re-tighten it after I take her out for a test drive.
Right now, I have the tips sticking out about 3/4" shy from the very tip of
the aero-bumper. I only have another inch between the battery compartment
and the pipe after the muffer, so not sure if I want to shorten it any further.
ABTsportsline- as far as tips go, my universal joint for the sockets came in
handy to take off the factory exhaust. Also channel-lock plyers and WD40
will make removing the hangers a lot easier. Using jackstands under the
muffers when removing the factory exhaust and installing the rear section
came in real handy (especially since I have to mess around with the clearance
on my aero-bumper). Also, I needed to bend the heatsheild upward a bit
where the rear section and the sleeve meet as it was hitting it completely.
Otherwise, just some regular hand tools and gloves will do the trick. It's not
hard to do, just time consuming...and my wife loved the factory exhaust
in the basement

I bought my last hanger and installed it. And I shortened the exhaust a
tad more so that the exhaust tip is about 2inches from the tip of the
aero kit. I can see the "Milltek" logo and about 3-4mm more.
*On the post above, I was thinking the otherway...the shorter the
exhaust, the more room between the pipe after the muffler and battery
compartment... oops.
I took it out for a spin. Started out slow until I didn't smell too much gasket
and then took it several times to redline on the expressway. The tone is
close to factory, just a tad throatier. No drone as expected and imo, a little
too quiet!!!
The hangers I used was a generic hanger I bought at Autozone. P/No: 17219.
It is black about 8mm thinner than factory and about 6mm longer. It works.

kenchan,
It will get louder with miles. The drone is still non-existent but the tone becomes more "British" every day! I think I've spent more money on gas since installing this just from revving it up more.

Yes, I have a tiny bit of particle on my rear window from the exhaust.
i think it's part of the gasket that is breaking in.
>>does anyone see metallic stuff on rear of car after installing their miltek? I've had mine on about 2 months and its still puffing out a bit of stuff you can see on rear window.

Call Stratmosphere and let them know you have a 2004. Milltek is making a fix for the existing systems to fit on the 2004's.
