Drivetrain GIAC Ecu upgrade
The GIAC is still requiring the old school method of popping the chip out and shipping it, and hopefully not getting it lost in the mail.
If they had jumped on the bandwagon, they would have had a lot of UUC exhausts sitting around by now, and all there money tied up in those so they couldn't bring in any Milteks.
Although I haven't seen an independent dyno of either one yet. I just find it hard to believe that the Milltek gives that much torque without noise. I'll doubt it until I see independent proof.
With all this proposed testing, I'd like to get to the bottom of why dgszweda1 started spelling Eric with a c and then switched to Erik with a k. From what I could tell, there was no rhyme or reason. Hmm....

Yeah I am not to sure why that is. I think it may be a bug on the site. It appears to be the same one that is causing your post above to appear twice. Hmmmm!

I think dgszweda1 has a lot of good stuff to say. There is an unbelievable lemming quality about a lot of people on these boards... Randy said... almost becomes a mantra as they jump off the cliff. I am waiting for the GIAC chip to come up but it's not a definate that I'm gonna get it. Here is my reasoning:
1. It really won't hurt me to wait. I'm just havin' fun in my MINI. I'm not racing it (though I may go autocrossing one of these days). So why do I need something right now? I don't.
2. I'm impressed with Eric's work. I had him do my 15% pulley and he had me in and out of there in no time. I wanted to do it myself but it seemed like too much work. While I was there I talked with him some about other products for my mini and I got the feeling that he was an honest guy.
3. I'm really not impressed with all of the chips out there right now. Most of them seem like they were just rushed out so that people had something to buy. Increase the redline and boom... instant power. Doesn't impress me.
4. $500 isn't a bad price for an ecu (something Eric said he was still shooting for in the price range at MINI cup 2). Even if it performs roughly the same as the other chips out there, it would be one of the cheapest.
5. Packaging really isn't a problem for me because I have family in the Philly area. However, for other people I know he was talking about being able to upload it from a laptop. I'm guessing it would be something where you could also probably put a deposit on a laptop if you don't have one? (That's just a guess... Eric hasn't said anything like that to me but it would make sense) However, initially it would have to get installed by them.
I think a lot of people want to get as much power as possible out of their little cars that they really want that extra 1-2hp. However, like computers, people don't look at much else besides the HP number. I don't mind people being lemmings... heck it means mine is all that more distinct.

What is this GIAC thing? I think we should make sure that this was not announced a year ago on april 1st, otherwise it is the best long running hoax I have encountered. For those of you who read everything literally I am joking, I am aware that Garret really exists, but I am beginning to doubt that GIAC will ever make it to market.
