Drivetrain 04 MCS A/C delete, fan options
04 MCS A/C delete, fan options
Hey Guys,
I have searched for this for a while now, so I hope I didn't miss it in here.
I have an 04 MCS that is turning into more and more of a track machine as time goes by
. When I had the cylinder head off and installed an oil cooler I opted for an A/C delete, got the pulley from the dealer and removed the radiator and the lines to where they reach the firewall. I read you should plug the switch back in to avoid running the fan all the time. Everything is running great except for that with the AC in I could turn it on and get the low speed fan to turn on while sitting in traffic. I am not sure how I feel about the temperature yo-yo-ing like it does now while sitting in traffic.
So is there a way to wire up something to trick the low speed fan to come on? If I put in a switch to replace the AC pressure sensor would that work? Is it healthy for the engine to run 20 degrees hotter when sitting in traffic than when driving? At what temperature does the stock gauge indicate overheating?
I have a Scan Gauge so I get actual temps and I can watch it go up and down between 220 and 213 while sitting at a light. Any ideas? I am not that good with electrical :(

You could certainly wire in an override switch, but I figure that the BMW engineers determined when the fan needed to come on, and at which speed. And they're a lot better at electrical (and mechanical) than we are.
