The funny thing was that I read all this stuff, and thought I was very well prepared. But yanking off the **** was harder than I expected and pretty much hit myself in the face with the old **** as it came flying off. LOL

I'll stick to taking pictures and not removing *****. LOL

Yup. Somewhere between -25 degrees F and 100 degrees F
the coefficient of expansion of the steel and plastic don't agree.

Thanks! I am using an old 3.3 MP Nikon Coolpix 880. I've had it for a few years and love the pictures I can take. These were what I call "quickies" since I didn't spend the hours and hours I normally would when lighting this kind of thing. I actually did them to show D. Whalen that I'd like to take pictures for his website, but he got too busy making these to worry about me! LOL

It was lit with a single 600 watt Arri Fresnel with a Chimera softbox. Background is vellum on a folding card table in my garage held up by c-stands. Foam core is used on 3 sides to give proper reflections. The close up was done in the "flower" macro mode with the camera about an inch away. Long exposure to capture the inside of the ****. I don't remember all the settings cause this was taken last year.

>>Octaneguy....those are great PICs. What kinda camera are you using?

Thanks Hafid! I think it just goes to show that high end SLR cameras aren't needed to shoot beautiful pics (though cool to have!!) . I loved your night shots, and was amazed at how grain free they were. My Coolpix suffers from a lot of digital noise on night shots.

impediment to divorce style: put your likeness and name on it. then, like the hollywood stars who get each others names tatooed on, he'd have to grind it off if you ever broke up.

True! But you can rent from your local camera store for pretty cheap. We got Samy's cameras out here in Los Angeles that do professional rentals. I ended up buying my own set since I do quite a bit of shooting. 4 Lights, stands, and soft boxes were around $5K to buy back in 1999 but a single light with softbox can be rented for like $30 for the weekend or so. Of course, for personal photos, $30 is a lot of money! LOL

Thanks!

OctaneGuy - what kind of shooting are you doing? Are you in the cinema / photo industry? I'm lucky in the sense that I have access to Arri stuff at work, including an HMI....

mine was to grab SO since he didn't look too busy. Tell him what needed done and 'supervise'. It actually worked well to open the sunroof to stand for the correct angle and keep his face away from the ****.. I wish I had the camera.

Hi Dandp,

I used to have own an award winning production company, and we did all kinds of stuff, but around the turn of the dot com industry, we pretty much decided to call it quits after 10 years. Primarily due to an ad agency that went out of business and took us forever to collect while we suffered through debts caused by them. Ugly story. I kept my lighting gear but sold off all of our digital equipment and decks and gave up our office lease.

Now a days, I develop and market new products, and just use my camera experience to shoot product stuff, or just use it for fun! Having played with really expensive toys, it's fun to use old "obsolete" stuff like my 4 year old digital camera!

re: HMI's
OOh, I'm jealous. Wish I could afford one of those.

I went to the Flame Ball website...interesting. The only problem I have is taping the wires to the shifter. Too bad there is not a cleaner install  .

How about using copper-foil wires and using a big tube
of black shrink-wrap over the shifter shaft?

A note on removing the stock shifter ****. Just hit a 2002 Dodge Caravan head on @ about 20mph. The **** should shoot straight up and almost go out the sunroof. Easy as pie

Am I correct in understanding what everybody else is writing that anything we can get you the art for, you can turn into a shift ****?

Maybe the 6 speed pattern etched very shallow and then what ever graphic we want a bit deeper?

something like that?

His description of how to remove the **** was not far from the truth. There are three main points to the removal of the stock ****:

1.) The **** is removed by pulling STRAIGHT UP. It will literally just pop off (some people have done this accidently during some spirited shifting

Enjoy.

Yep. Just about anything, as long as it isn't a solid figure, or 'fill'.
I can only engrave outlines.
