Looks like the forge unit by just looks. I'm waaaaay too skeptical to put some chinese knockoff on my JCW. you paid the money for the car, help it out and put on good parts.

Helix FTW

I cant see where you order on that site. Anyways if you are not a purist I bet it would work fine and save $400.

If it comes how it is displayed get it... for 136 the worst that can go wrong is a weld may break after use causing a leak and you can just replace it!

Come on, have some integrity... Buying cheap stolen Chinese crap is a large part of the reason our economy is in the crapper.

I have my good parts but if some one cant spend dough on good stuff... knock offs work just as well. 70% of every appliance in your home is mad in china... the knock offs dont kill the economy, outsourcing labor hours does.

Wow no love for China huh?

I have seen this sort of thread on other forums over and over again.

It always turns out that there are a few guys who buy the knock off and are happy spending $XXX less and accept a few compromises.

It also turns out that there are a few guys who are happy spending $XXX more and feel the differences are worth the money.

I for one would like to hear from someone who has used it and has first hand experience with fitment, pre-post install IAT, and butt dyno.

Cheap, Fast, Reliable... pick two. Buying knockoffs hurt the companies that actually take the time and do the R&D to get a product done properly. Thus, assuming that all things are equal and both parts are identical, I'll support the company that produced the product first and spent the time and money to get it to work, rather than the one that took the already made product and just replicated it. That said, a lot of times on the knockoffs fitment and welds turn out to be shoddy and the parts require modification to fit or even work in the first place and you end up spending more in the long run. Seems to me, it's smarter to spend the extra money up front and do it right the first time.

While I may have stuff that is made in China, they are not knock offs. They ARE NOT stolen designs. Some company may design, test spend money on R&D and hopes to recover those costs. (Helix for one) Some crappy Chinese bugger steals that design and makes a cheap copy. They incur no costs, no R&D and they STEAL money, (profit) from the designer, (usually American...) Yes that hurts our economy. It's theft, and really short sighted by the buyers.

Seriously, just cause it initially looks the same does not mean the core of the IC is even close to the quality of a USA crafted part!

At the end of the day your allowed to do whatever you choose with your hard earned cash..

I bet if you looked into where the cores of some of the "name brand" FMICs came from... you'd be surprised that they aren't made in the US.

jus' say'n

I'm really not talking about the core, but rather the design of the intercooler. Either Helix or Forge probably (should have) a patent on the design... That where the Chinese thievery comes into play...

Parts vs Design are different stories, theres mention here on buying US parts, not chinese parts.

Also, there are other countries besides China who "steal" designs... including companies within the US... Being Chinese i'd rather you not generalize patent thievery on "the Chinese"

Thanks

and to add, I have a Helix FMIC myself.

Darn spell checker...

But the Chinese are the most blatant intellectual property, design, music, whatever thieves...

Don't even get me started on monetary policies...

@richardsperry

US monetary policies is just as bad as China. Alan Greenspan and Ben Bernanke low interest rate is flooding the US with cheap fiat currency.

US monetary policies is a joke imho. LOL

When you compare population sizes then of course they will stand out the most.

We have a provisional patent on the stepped core design, and are evaluating cost/benefit of legally protecting our IP. We were already able to stop a chinese copycat from selling on ebay, but to get and pursue patents is a different order of magnitude. We're still evaluating.
