ECU swap

I have a 2005 cooper s with a few mods "check signature" and i want to get a simple canned tune for now (no reliable dyno/tuners close by), i really like the options Madnessmotorworks provides but i have to ship him my ecu first and this is my daily driver and no back up available so i was wondering if it were possible to pick up a same year ECU and model from fleabay and ship him that one to flash. that way i would have a stock ecu and a modded ECU. any ideas on that?

I went with Unichip and just had it dynoed today and i went from 178 hp at the wheel to 201. Good gain for the money. Ive basically got what you have...15% reduction, CAI, screamin demon, plugs and wires, OBX headers and full custom magnaflow exhaust.

You can't just swap ecu because your key is programmed with the current ecu. If you buy a second ecu you would have to get it program. I recommend getting custom tune for your mods.

That makes sense. what if i have the key for that ecu as well, can i swap chips in the key to make it work?

That's awesome, but i've heard that it works great but then the mini ecu gets smart and starts making adjustments that basically negates the unichip. is the new unichip better?

Just rent a car for a week, and ship the ecu....or find a more local place, and do a long weekend drive...less issues.
The tool to up/download the tunes are about $350. Then can do it by email...the other option.
