I am considering upgrading the ignition set-up for my MCS. I have done the following mods already:

CAI
15% Pulley
Evotech ECU
UUC exhaust
H Sport Springs
Madness Swaybar
Bridgestone S-03's (205/50 16)

I have several track or school days coming up. I am planning to purchase the Schroth Harness, and possibly ignition upgrade:

Denso IK22's or NGK's (colder heat range)?
Nology, Magnecor, or Kingsbourne wires?
Pilo Coil

Please let me know what your results have been if you have done any upgrades to you ignition. Thanks

Pilo coilpack, IK22, Nology. Not the cheapest but great combo. along with 15% pulley, it works great.

Pilo, Nology's, IK22's best combo going...and it runs real nice too. No ill effects just a pain routing the wires. I need to snap a pic but don't have a digital yet and can't seem to be able to post pics even when I find one....

Save your money, and spend it on something that actually works. There has been no proof that any plugs, wires, ignition boosters or coil packs make any power.

I'm with blackdogmini.

But, you could be the first to spend his (or her) money wisely.

What I am looking for is a bit smoother throttle response. It seems that the colder range spark plugs should be a minimum for a 15% pulley that is being tracked. The question is whether or not the coil and new wires are worth the money. The Nology wire lengths seem to be an issue. The Kingsbourne wires are of a low resistance type, and the coil??? There seems to be several people that have had good results with this combination. All inputs are certainly welcome.

The bottomline on ignition upgrades-
It should not be your first upgrade.
It is costly compared to what you may gain.
Power gains can be really small and when dynoed might not show.
It is possible you might notice your MINI is a bit smoother but results may vary.
Once installed, your dealer may not want to touch your ECU software because stumble and yo-yo cannot be assessed with a non-stock ignition system. (This is what my dealer told me!)

So in your case, I'd say if you left everything alone you'd be fine.
If you want to change to colder plugs (IK-22) you can.
You'll have to decide if it is worth the money for a Pilo coil or MSD coil and Nology wires.
Personally I'd save the money for premium gas, tires, or driving school.

Ignition upgrades are never about big h.p. It's about optimizing the way it runs, smooth power delivery and possibly better mpg. H.P. wise maybe 1-2 it's not a big gain but it will run better see for youself. I felt it was smoother to redline. Again all things are subjective so go with what you think is best
