Has there been a company that modifies the shifter counterweight (highlighted in yellow) located on the transmission housing to reduce shifter **** throw instead of the traditional short shift kit?
This has been done over several years in the VW world; wondering if this has caught on with the Mini.

Is this significantly different from installing a weighted shift **** like the Whalen?

 

Yes, because it changes the fulcrum point at the transmission selector input, and not on the gear shift itself.
And then weight can be added or subtracted to give the end user the 'feel' they prefer.
