I see everyone say how "heavy" the stock 17in s-lites are, but exactly how much do they weigh? What is a good weight for a wheel?

S-lites weigh 24 lbs., wheel/runflat tire = approximately 49 lbs. A good weight for a 17" performance wheel is in the mid-teens, for a 16" wheel in the low-mid teens IMHO.

With runflats my S-lites weighed between 49.8 and 50.0 pounds. I replaced them with some Rota Slipstreams and Falken Azenis weighing a total of 36.4 pounds each. A noticeable difference, especially considering the total lack of grip the runflats displayed.

kypt,
Aloha and welcome to NAM.
The S-lytes with stock runflats weight about 48 pounds per wheel/tire. The rim alone is 25 pounds.
I bought Centerline RPMs in 17x7 and each rim was supposed to weigh about 14 pounds each. I weighed the wheel/tire combo I have now and it came to 38 pounds each. I have Yokohama AVS ES100 tires in 215/45-17

If you want a light wheel set up look at SSR comp R rims in 16x6.5 (11.9 pounds) or SSR comp rims in 16x7.
Falken Azenis Sport tires for either rim are reasonably light.

Bottom line- all stock 17" rims are heavy and runflat tires are heavy.

Azenis are know to be one of the heaviest tires on the market. Toyo T1s are the lightest.
I have seen light weight wheels (Volk TE 37s) with Azeni, and I think it is criminal.
If you buy the Monza wheel and shod it with Azenis, you are 7 pounds heavier than a SSR with a Kumho MX.

FYI - Yokohoma's are about the lightest tire if you're going with the tire rack (I wish they carried Toyos!). My Yoko/16" SSR combo weigh 33.6 lb on my bathroom scale. I'm not sure how accurate the scale is, so I'll weigh the stock wheel/tire combo on it as well when my car arrives to give a better idea of the weight differential.

Even though they are heavy, they stick like glue. I know the Azenis vs. MX debate still rages on in the SCCA STS/STX crowd, but the Azenis are still pretty dominant in the right conditions. I think the weight differential is more like 3-4 pounds, not 7. Both are great tires, IMHO, but each one has its place.

Wheels and tires would be 7 lbs a corner. 205 50 15 Azeni are 22.6, 205 50 15 MX 19.1. Monza 14, SSR 11. Sorry should have been more specific.
I agree the grip is great but heat soak is another item to consider.

Yeah, I agree... should be interesting to see the Azenis vs. MX battle heat up again this year in STS/STX!!! Personally, I'm sticking with my ES100's until I wear them out (which shouldn't take too long this season!) and will then decide where to go... might get some light 15" rims and put something on them for auto-x later this year.

For hot places, the MX would seemingly to have an advantage like here in the Texas Region, but the Azenis were still dominant here last year from what I can tell (and saw). For cooler climes, it's a little closer!
