Engine Timing Procedure!!!!

Really need my car to be running again soon. I was hoping that i was going to be able to hold the timing chain on the crank sprocket and mark the chain, sprocket, and cam but the chain fell off of the crank so now im back to square one. Any one know how to get it in time? Searched all over the forum and nothing. I would buy the manual but dont have the funds right now. PLEASE HELP

According to the Bentley manual, you have to remove the timing chain cover.
Start by removing the valve cover (I assume this may already be done).
Remove the timing chain tensioner plug ( back of engine just above oil heat ex-changer). Remove drive belt and tensioner.
Remove crankshaft vibration damper.
Remove timing chain housing cover.
Now, There are two dots on the crank sprocket and two copper colored chain links. Just line up the two and you should be good to go. On the cam sprocket be sure the triangular timing mark is aligned with the copper chain link. The Bentley manual makes no mention of it but I assume that cylinder 1 will need to be at TDC. Installation is reverse of removal.

Proper torques:
Timing chain guide to cylinder head: 21 ft-lb
Camshaft sprocket to camshaft: 75 ft-lb
Timing chain tensioner to engine block: 46 ft-lb
Drive belt idler pulley to timing chain housing: 33 ft-lb
Drive belt tensioner to timing chain housing: 7 ft-lb
Drive belt tensioner to supercharger: 33 ft-lb
Timing chain housing cover to engine block: 9 ft-lb
Timing chain housing cover to engine block (oval head): 13 ft-lb
Vibration damper to crankshaft: 85 ft-lb
Valve cover to cylinder head: 9 ft-lb

Feel free to send a pm if you want me to scan any pages you need and email them to you.

Well I had replied with a long message on the entire timing process but apparently that message got lost in oblivion (moderation). Basically, there are two dots on the crank sprocket that need to line up with two copper chain links. The cam sprocket has a triangular mark that also lines up with a copper link. Line those up with cylinder 1 at TDC and you should be golden.

Well on the old small block V8s we just stick a finger in the spark plug hole and turn the crank with a socket. These MINI engines have a pretty long spark plug tube so you won't be able to get a finger in there (unless you're Mr. Fantastic of course) Any skinny long object will do. It doesnt need to be exactly at TDC, just close enough so the timing marks on the crank are near the bottom so they can line up with the chain.

I like using a pencil to find TDC. As in, put the pencil into #1 spark plug hole, and rotate crank until pencil is furthest out.

You want to make sure you're not 180 degrees out, at TDC both intake and exhaust will be closed.
