Drivetrain Supercharger questions (needs replacing)
Supercharger questions (needs replacing)
Ok so my mini died and i took it to the shop, had "20" or so miles till empty so i didnt think it was gas but i guess my computer lied and that was the real problem (sad) i know but it only cost a couple dollars to get it looked at by a very well known mini mechanic, i found out i need a new supercharger or so i may very soon, is there a way to go to a upgraded supercharger like a bolton? or is more upgraded parts needed such as injectors, cam, and other stuff like that
The only bolt on options right now are:
Another M45:
Remanufactered, about $1900.00
Used, usually under $1000.00
Sprintex: (do a search for more info.)
New $3200.00 (no other parts required, a true bolt on.)
As a side note my S/C has been making strange noises for well over a year now but is still working, (knock on simulated wood grain) so who knows when your's could actually die.

Uhm, you prices are a bit off...
New: $1500.00 http://www.waymotorworks.com/r53-coo...ercharger.html
Ported rebuilt: $995.00 http://www.waymotorworks.com/r53-por...ercharger.html
You can even have them come with a smaller pulley pre-installed.

BlwnAway is right, those are the only two "BOLT ON" S/Cs as of right now.
The Sprintex could work well with your existing mods. As long as you stay with the 70mm pulley with it, your current fueling, and tune shuld be fine. If you go this route though, and decide to step up to the 64mm pulley, in my oppinion it would be worth getting some big injectors (550's) and a good solid custom tune.
Stock also works, it's cheaper, and has prooven factory reliability. Only thing is it's stock. (You know how I feel about stock!
) WAY offers a rebuild service, and can even have the rotors coated with a better coating than the JCW + '05 an up blowers come with, he also has porting services avalible.
The choice is yours.

Can I ask what is wrong with the supercharger?? We've seen several shops lately misdiagnosis a crank pulley failing as a bad supercharger. I had one guy that spent $5k when all he needed was a crank pulley.
+1 to this. I think I've read enough stories about failing SCs to say make sure it's not something else.
Damn, man. You just got that MINI too, didn't you? Which place in CHS did you take it to? Pretty sure Chadtoolio has a shop. Otherwise, I recommend Exclusively Bimmers in Mt. Pleasant (talk to the owner, Dennis).
