Drivetrain ABF Tech Division R56 turbo back exhaust system
We are planning on shooting a more official all in one video that should include that. For the next two weeks though we are going to be pretty focused on the race car and the race at Firebird raceway. If we have time though maybe we can shoot the video at the track and get that up shortly after we come back.
Ok, you caught us, we were pushing the car.
When we were first testing our turbo back we used the the standard maps that came with the AP. The Alta stage 2 written for 3" turbo backs worked the best out of the maps Alta had provided. Cobb provided ProTuning and wrote a map similar to the Alta stage 2, but is tailored specifically to our catless 2.5 inch turbo back. This map yielded better gains over that of the stage 2 map that came standard with the AP. This is shown in the dyno graphs in the O/P. It has been street and track proven, I even use it in my daily driven MCS. We provide this map with our turbo back exhaust system exhaust for customers with the AP.

Sounds good...I am sorta on the fence. Right now I am running a Stage I map with intercooler and full JCW exhaust. I am just wondering how much more this configuration would net me in terms of power/torque and feel. Of course sound is also a great consideration. So far it sounds great....would love to get a few drive-by sound clips.
Being that you supply the map with the exhaust, I believe I read that earlier in this tread as well, that's really not too bad of a deal. Since some OTS maps can be anywhere from 150-$225. That leads me to this question: would you be able to adjust the maps according to the other performance mods people have on their vehicle?

Power wise we have seen the MCS put out around 215-220 whp and 225-230 wtq with this combination. Low and mid range power is going to be similar to that of the graph posted for our exhaust system. Most of the power gain will be in the higher mid range on up with the FMIC installed.
Through Cobb or Alta we can have the maps adjusted. However tuning preferences and cost would be entirely at the discretion of either company and out of our hands.
Right now though it's pretty much written towards our exhaust and most other bolt ons offered at this point. Any changes would be very minimal on a dyno and not that noticeable on the street. The only exception to this would be for the JCW owners and we are working on improved maps to better support the bigger turbo.
I am going to bring my car with me when we hit the track this week end in AZ. I plan on shooting some better video with drive by shots at the track. It's just to hard to get on it around here with out getting busted.

Could the ABF guys give us an update on where you're at with offering the Cobb Access Port with Mynes tuning? For a lot of us these tuning events are just too far away from where we live and the Access Port is looking very promising.
Also, what boost pressure would be utilized on a R56 S (manual) FMIC, catless downpipe/3" exhaust, and CAI? I'm a little uneasy feeling about pushing over 18+psi on the stock MCS internals, especially knowing that the JCW pistons are designed for higher boost levels and I certainly don't have those in my MCS. I trust you guys over anyone so I greatly appreciate your comments.

We still deal with Mynes and want to help them push their Bytetronik soft ware since it works good. This however is for the R53. For R56 tuning we use Cobb SoCal. Currently it is a little tough to get cars tuned since Cobb SoCal is not fully operational. Once their new dyno cell is up we plan to start actively tuning. This should be soon. Hopefully from there we will work with enough ECU's directly to supply decent canned maps that are safe, but still fun. Maximum power output will still come from directly dynoing the car still and this will always be the case.
Thanks for the update! I think I will sit tight for the time being until the whole ABF & Mynes gang are at a stage of serial release for their tuning. Being a guinea pig does not appeal to me and my wallet.
lol, yeah that's a good plan. I've had people that really want to be guinea pigs, but I prefer to let my personal R56 take it for the team.
So I am in the market for a DP right now and I came across this thread. I don't like the price but, hey that has already been beaten to death. I would like to say though that why polished? It looks great but I have had exhaust pieces that were polished and the first time you turn the car on they turn that kick *** multi-color from the metal heating up but, sadly within a couple of months the start to turn nasty colors and generally look like crap. I would love to see a ceramic coated system which I think you cost roughly the same as it does now being that you would offset the price of polishing by the coating it.
I just talk to Alta a couple of days ago and they stated that the AP does not support catless DPs. As stated you have Cobb down the street (in reality it is their product) so they seemed to have fixed it and have not told Alta. Which if they did that has just opened the door to a bunch of other options.
As far as not putting a cat in because there is not one that is legal, I have found them in the past that state that they are 50 state complient. Now as fars Cali goes you guys have some serious sog restrictions that limit what you can put on a car.
ABF does have the R&D and track history to back up their product and I have met Dez and trust him. Hell he took my mom around Indy during MTTS.
I would like to throw one more thing into the mix here. How about a group buy where the exhaust is marked off by $200 to $400 off. Maybe even more if you can get enough people on it. I will keep my fingers crossed that there comes more reviews of this exhaust from people who bit the bullet and jumed in and got one.

And fwiw, I have an AP and my catless dp works fine with it. Catless is the only way to go in my opinion...everything else is not worth the money.

Generally we don't coat stainless since there is very little risk of outer corrosion, this is why it's used to begin with. The cost are about the same, but coatings can chip and flake. The way it colors in all depends on the installer. Finger prints and residue left behind will be burned into the exhaust giving that rainbow purplish mess. If properly cleaned after install prior to start up it should only turn a goldish color. After that it's just like any other exhaust, if it's kept clean it will look nice.
I'm not 100% sure about this since I have not spoken to Jeff or Chris directly, but when they say the AP doesn't support catless DP I beleive they are referring to the standard maps that come with the AP. They are after all written with their product in mind and they don't sell a catless DP.
A group buy is possible, but we are opting not to do one since these are made to order and crafted by hand. The group buy would have people waiting too long. The price was dropped to $1350, which when considering the other full turbo backs available isn't bad since we also provide a AP map tailored to this particular exhaust. I'd also like to point out that we have not seen any actual dyno charts advertised that show greater gains then this turbo back.
Haven't had a chance since the AP doesn't support it yet. I can't imagine it will take a long time, but it is a new ECU and a whole different set of algorithms that need to be sorted out. Once a proven tool is available we will bolt one up and write a map for it.
