Drivetrain intake and water...
intake and water...
Haven't seen this either. I really like the intakes like the jcw one that uses the windshield cowl. However, living in fla we are subject to torrential downpours. Biblical rain showers. Has anyone experience with this? My concern is that so much water coming from above could flood the thing. Is there a way or built in safeguard to prevent this?
Otherwise, I am extremely interested in the jcw intake bc I like the design and don't want too much sound. I prefer to have more bite than bark.

If your going to be concerned about it just go with the JCW airbox. But we've been running all the brands of airboxes and not one of them that removes the panel dividing the engine and the windshield cowl has ever had a water problem. Our most popular DDM intake is great, and I have several customers in FL using it without any issue. And with the DDM intake you can leave the plastic divider in the car to quiet it down and for if you were concerned about water.
This has been covered before, but basically, i wouldn't worry about it. for one, there is a drain at the bottom of the cowl chamber (not sure what to call it, but the compartment under the cowl that the divider divides the engine bay from), and unless you find this drain to not function, theres no problem. Also, on the stock, normal, HAI (hot air intake) that comes stock on all non jcw r53's, there is a vent into this cowl area. So if there was a problem with this, it wouldn't get worse, or better with a CAI.
my 2 cents...

P.S.- the CAI makes a huge difference, its surprising. I reccomend the Mini Mania ultrik CAI kit. it costs $95.00 plus shipping, and is really a great kit. I only notice more noise when i go WOT, otherwise, it sounds about the same, even with my drilled out divider.

Yes, i highly reccomend it. i dont see how it wouldn't have just as much power gains as an alta or any of the other ones (unless it's one that changes out the piping to a silicon pipe). Its just not as flashy, or high qaulity. But it works fine, and thats the truth! heres the link: http://new.minimania.com/web/Item/NME2032/InvDetail.cfm
