Well,
I said what the hell and bought the red MOSS intake for my MINI. It's been installed for about two weeks now. what I really noticed is, when I used to get on the gas and the rev's would climb, right at 4,000 rpm the car would pull like it was hitting it's power band. Now it pulls really smooth through the rev's.
I can feel that the MINI is making more power, but nothing to get really excited about. It's my first mod and for the price, I'm very happy with it.

Also the instalation was very easy, plus it sound cool too

I got the moss intake also, you can feel the power...just get used to the intake rubbing under the hood. Nothing you can really do about it either.

Sorry to hear that you're still having that problem.

I thought I was the only one that have the rubbing problems after installing the intake. Guess not

Not just the Moss intake - I had it with the Twister, experimental one and the Monster.

My Moss intake doesn't rub under the hood. Don't ask me why; I just followed the directions like everyone else! There's a barely noticeable mark, sort of like a shoe scuff on a wall, but nothing like what some of you have described. In any case, it doesn't seem like much to worry about, other than cosmetically. Hope you enjoy it!

Did your intake come with the small filter or the larger one they replaced it with? Could we just remove the lining under the bonnet...is it just to reduce heat?

I don't have any rubbing under the hood. The intake came with a smaller longer filter. not at all like the one they show on their web sit. The picture on the web site looks like a big fat K&N, that's shorter and bigger round. I remember thinking the filter looked smaller in person.

I just went back and found
this thread about the size change for the Moss filters. How a LARGER filter gets rid of the rubbing problem I definitely don't understand! In any case I appear to have the larger one. I think I bought it in November or December of 2002.

I know there's been discussion here about the purpose of that lining under the bonnet, but I don't recall the answer. It doesn't cover the entire bonnet without gaps, so it doesn't seem like cutting out a small section near the intake filter would be a big deal.

The pad is like an insulation blanket. Keeps the paint on the bonnet from discoloring due to engine heat. Heat rises, so the very top of the bonnet is the most perceptable to this. Also, if you get a backfire through the intake (not likely with the supercharger), the pad will protect this as well.
