Will a bmw dealers diag.tool work on a mini?
Hi guys- Just picked up a 2006 s-My friend is a mech. at a BMW store and I thought I would have him run full diag. on my car to see if there is anything going on- will it work or does it have to be mini specific- thanks- bill
Not all BMW dealers can. They have to have selected MINI when they do their updates on their Computers, if they don't they won't have the ability to diag. MINI's. Just ask the Dealer, but FYI most BMW dealers won't work on MINIs due to their contract with BMW North America.
The BMW dealer service dept. local to me, actually refuses to look at MINIs in any capacity. They will not allow a MINI to enter their service bay at all. The reason they cite (and I'm not making this up) is that they don't want the sight of MINIs in their service bay to tarnish their image in the eyes of their customers. Obviously this dealership only sells BMWs, not MINIs.
The Service Mgr I talked to there said they're considering taking on MINI sales too sometime down the road once they fix the collapsed roof in the neighboring building, LOL) {maybe a few of you now know which BMW dealership I'm talking about}, ...and that they would obviously then change their MINIs-have-cooties service policy. When I inevitably stated the obvious: that MINI is a BMW-product...WTF, he just shrugged his shoulders and politely reminded me that he didn't make the rules... Whatever. Still, I told him that it was the snobbiest thing I had ever heard and that BMW owners (off-warrantee) deserve their exhorbitant service premiums!
Walking out of there I remember uncomfortably wondering which of the following two things was true: if I actually owned a redheaded stepchild of a car, not worthy of being serviced by it's own manufacturers' dealer service dept's, or that BMW was not company I ever wanted to do business with, when the time eventually comes to possibly upgrade to something more expensive.
