I had a JCW kit installed about 3 months ago, and ever since about 1/2 way thru break in my MINI has a strange cold start belt of pulley "squeel" noise. This only occurs on cold start and increases in intensity and duration with each subsequent cold start. Warm start ups are fine no squeel. My dealer has replaced the drive pulley/supercharger pulley 4X, all the belts numerous times, and the supercharger 2X. It has been in the dealership over 33 days on 5 seperate occasions, and they can't figure this out, each time I pick it up it starts again within a few days.

MINI in NJ is involved but either they will not tell me what is going out or they can't figure it out either. They just keep throwing parts at it hoping something something will stick and fix it.

Any ideas??? :???:

If your Mcs is a 2002 there was a bulletin about belt niose at startup. The cure was to replace the crakshaft dampner pulley, your dealer should know this.

If they have not changed the tensioner yet I would highly recomend they do so.
Keep us posted.

Yeah, check the internet/MINI forums/dealer for TSB or recall info as I too seem to remember this issue coming up several months ago.

My JCW has some belt squeal when cold but it goes away as soon as the engine warms up and you begin driving.

Thanks for the input, it looks like the dealer resolved it by replacing all pulleys and belts in the engine compartment. Unfortunatly they do not know what resolved it, but so far 350 miles and it has not come back, hopefully it never will.
