First Mod....very pleased!

Well, I started down the long dark road. I took Maggie to the local muffler shop and had a one ball done. First impressions; very pleased with the increased sound/better tone of the exhaust. I haven't really had an oppurtunity to experience any performance boost as I had the kids in the car with me I'm not expecting a lot on the performance front, but any little gain will be nice. Only cost $50 bucks to do. My only fear is that now I will be sinking every penny into her now. Thanks to all of you guys for your posts regarding the one-ball, it made it an easy decision to make as to where to start.

I'd love to do a pulley next. I understand that it gives the most hp for the buck, but I'll probably go with an intake next.I can do the intake myself, and even though there are great step by step how-to's for the pulley, I'm just not sure I'm comfortable doing it myself yet. I'm looking at either the Alta or M7 intake. Any suggestions?

The intake is a good DIY item...pick your intake based upon the amount of noise/supercharger whine you want/can tolerate. They all make about the same HP....I found the Dinian to be a good compermise between noise, OEM look, and Price.....I can have a car seat in the car, and not give out earplugs due to whistling, and the Whine is oh so nice when I accelerate hard, but very subdued in cruise.
As for doing a DIY pulley....I would recommend you pay a few bucks to have one installed....or find someone who has done a few at pulley parties. failure to do the install right can result in slippage at best, and some big problems at worst, including a non-running car or "basket-case".
Some shops will sell a used 15% (from owners who upgraded to a 17%) including install, for $175-200, plus $30 for a new belt....strongly recommended. This price is from my local MINI GUY, in Massachusetts, a realitivly high cost state, so it is a good starting point. Generally, expect to pay a bit more, as he gives great prices to us MINI folks!!
New spark plugs one step cooler is generaly a good thing to do with a pulley....plan on spending about $50-65, plus labor....minimal.
