Drivetrain I've heard BORLA, I've heard not... Exhaust system for my Mi
>>Do you all have upgraded plug wires to compliment your intakes/exhaust? I heard that this is a must-have. I was going to order the Magnecor 8.5's. Is there an advantage to getting the 8.5's over the 8.0mm?<<
KiLO, I asked this same question of MCO before I ordered my Magnecors. I didn't get too much of a response, but the prevailing opinion was that the 8 mms have morethan enough capacity to handle the MINI's ignition system, so the 8.5 mms didn't offer much of an advantage, if any. I ordered them anyway, since they were only $10 more, and the same color as my car!

Yeah, I figured it can't hurt to have the wires a little bigger, right? Thanks Chris!
Anyway, thanks Juan for the feedback on the RSpeed. I think I'm leaning towards that exhaust. Sounds like exactly what I want. Not too loud, but stll nice sounding.

Well... The Rspeed exhaust has been on the Pepper White for one week, and we could not be much happier. The exhaust went on easily ( I must be slow - took my time and had it hanging under the car in about a hour and a half). The original exhaust is quite heavy and don't know why.
The Rspeed sounds great -- much like my old Jackson Racing exhaust on a Miata. It has a nice note at idle and the lower rpm's, and it REALLY sounds like what I thought a MINI ought to sound like when you're winding it up. It's met my expectations. I still have the Rspeed intake in the box and need to put it on soon.

I'm going to start modding my mini, I saw the Magnaflow exhaust for the mini cooper not the S on ebay for around $300. Anyone else have it? How does it sound? I like the way it looks but I don't know what it sounds like yet so I don't want to buy it yet.
To quote an earlier comment - thanks for the great reports on the Quicksilver!:
>>The Borla is generally considered to be too noisy, with a pronounced drone on road trips that will drive you nuts. I've heard this complaint on both the street and track versions of the Borla.
>>
>>I have had the Quicksilver on my MCS for 3 months now, and I love it, even if it was a bit pricey. It has a nice exhaust note that's a little louder than stock, and there is absolutely no drone on the highway. And in addition, it is 20 lbs lighter than stock, and neither the Magnaflow nor the Borla can claim that. >>
>>The US distributor is Mini-Madness in Portland, OR.
>>
>>Roger in New Orleans
Actually, we now distribute Quicksilver both in the UK and US. We do have a sale on the downpipe / header now, at over 200.00 off... we also recommend for those doing a pulley or exhaust upgrade (especially on an MCS) to consider the One Click ECU upgrade. It really unlocks the power when combined with a pulley, and allows you to return to stock ECU map at will.

Ken

Do you have the Street(#140027) or the sport(140035) version of the Borla. I'm trying to find out how much louder the sport version really is. I don't want it too loud but would like it to have som "PUNCH"
I'm not sure how anyone could consider the Borla cat-back to be 'generally too noisy'. It's very refined at cruising speeds on the street and highway - actually, it's hardly noticeable on the MC. When you get on the throttle, it's noticeable. It purrs at idle. I get compliments all the time on the sound, mostly from BMW drivers. It's no louder than the MTM exhaust on my friend's Audi S4.
I heard all the exhausts head-to-head at a MINI meet in SoCal, and like the RSpeed and Helix a lot as well... The RSpeed and Helix were on the top of my list, but I got a much better deal on the Borla from a local muffler shop. I really couldn't be much happier than I am with the Borla.
All make about the same power, realistically. So, it's more about what sound you want.
The BMP Intake sounds wicked at WOT, but is otherwise very quiet. It made a huge difference in how the car responds to throttle input - it revs much freer.
