Drivetrain Stratmosphere exhaust
Stratmosphere exhaust
I know there's a thread for the R56 mini stratmosphere exhaust. But does anyone have the stratmosphere exhaust for a R53?? Stratmo posted this on 4/22 https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...w-hot-one.html
It looks almost milltek-ish. Just wondering the power gains & sound vs the milltek.

Just took delivery of one of these yesterday. Will install it within the next week or so - just waiting for access to a lift.
I asked the same questions of Chad at Detroit Tuned and he provided the same answers - 'same specs as the Milltek....','...collaborated with Milltek on the design, etc.....'.
I'll update the post with my own findings. No plans to put it on the dyno, but I'll let you know how it sounds and 'feels'. Will also provide some feedback on the install process.

I've sold several of these exhaust already, but got to our first install on one today. Let me tell you that this exhaust will put a smile on your face from the moment you take it out of the box. Yes it is an almost exact copy of a Milltek, but if I don't say so a better job. The welds on this look fantastic, better than milltek. And the stainless finish is awesome. But as for fitment it fits just like the Milltek spot on, just need that hanger tweak, but they all do. I have to say it sounds just like a milltek, but at first it was a little quieter, but put a few miles on it and it was just like what I'm use to. I do think these tips are higher quality too. So if you were worried about this being a cheap knock off, and honestly I was at first, rest assured it is a quality peice, you won't go wrong.

Installed mine Saturday!! As stated above, its a beautiful system, welds are great. When I first fired it up it was so quiet, but slowly getting louder
I did tweak the hangers with some washers to get the tips from hitting the bumper. My only querk is that the passenger side tip looks crooked
I'll post pics later.

Sound Clip here http://www.stratmosphere.com/mini_exhausts.htm.
That's a R56. Here's some quick pics...
Thought it sounded kinda funny, and 2.75 dia., then noticed MK2. I am liking this MK1 system!
any interference using this system with a short shift kit? i need a new exhaust and this and the Alta are on my short list but I heard about Alta's having problems with my B&M shifter . then this just came out but is about $100 more than what i think is an already expensive Alta system. i can get a brand new Invidia (i currently have an Invidia i had purchased used that never fit right to begin with) for about $650. i may just find a place to do a custom system just to be different or just go with an IE system. unless Stratmosphere wants to do a GB and get this price down a bit?
Not sure about interference with a short shifter, I still have the factory rowboat. someone might be able chime in and answer your question. Stratmosphere is a no go on a group buy. Contact them and see what they can do for you.
Finally installed the MK1. Been in place for two days. Approx 40km of driving.
Here are my observations:
1. Build-quality: Really nice piece of work. Solid end-to-end. Good fitment between pieces. Overall fit to the car was excellent.
2. Installation: Pretty easy. Recommend a hoist. Alignment of the tips was off-center and too close to the bumper. Used washers on all the hanger-bolts to lower the tips away from the bumper. Needed to lower thet tips approximately 1.5cm to get stock-like clearance. Alignment still an issue. Will have to bend the hangers that came welded to the mufflers. Approx 1 cm off-center as is. Tips do not protrude any more than stock. Slightly less than stock if any different at all.
2. Sound: At idle the change is very subtle. Slightly more throaty and deep in tone. Only slightly louder on hard acceleration. The sound is most notably racier above 4500 rpm under acceleration - sounds very nice at 5000+ rpm, but still not buzzing or loud. If you want noise, this is not the exhaust for you.
3. Power/Torque: First impression was that torque delivery had shifted up the rpm band. The low-end 'jump' that was normal for the stock system is noticeably reduced. Low-end throttle response has 'softened' as a result. Mid-range torque and power delivery are improved. Overall delivery of both torque and power is smoother.
I am using a DDM Works CAI as well so the biggest bottleneck on the system is the header, which is still stock. No plans to change that at this time.
I am under the impression the stock ECU will need some time to acclimatize to the new breathing. Hoping it does so and results in a little more snap down low - miss that already.
Next mod will be a 15% pulley.
Hope that helps.
Cheers!

You shouldn't have any problems with the SS hitting the exhaust. I've only had that problem when running the short shifter as short as it will go, which in reality isn't necessary it becomes too short.
I'd recommend this exhaust over the others.

Sorry to reopen an old thread, but I was wondering how your Stratmosphere is doing now. I've been doing some upgrading lately (Bilstein/H&R combo, rear swaybar), and the exhaust is next on the list. The Miltek design and cheap(er) price of this one has me intrigued, just wondering how it's holding up.
Holding up very nicely. No problems of any kind to report. As mentioned in the original post, I intended on bending the hangers to fix an alignment issue with the tips. Did that without fanfare and the alignment is spot on.
I've grown to love the way the system resonates, especially between 3800 and 4500 rpm under moderate throttle - seems to be the sweet-spot.
Cheers!

Sorry, was checking their website. Saw the sound clip. Didn't notice it was for a R56
