I've been using the K&N Typhoon intake on my R53....and I got a good bump in intake sound! Taking out the stock intake tube/intake silencer makes a HUGE difference in sound....whether it's a ALTA or K&N. And an intake is something that just seems to compound with the more aftermarket work that you do to your car.
One thing that I did to open up the airflow was to cut open the back of the airbox. lets a lot more air come through the back of the box, and the cowling.
The truth around intakes has been this.....no matter whos you end up using, the performance numbers end up being very similar. And with my car being Chili Red.....the candy red intake tubes look awesome under my hood! lol

Which CAI has no throttle plate whistle? I just installed the alta and the whistle drove me crazy on a 3 hour drive yesterday. I just cant live with a 60db piercing dog whistle every time I slightly adjust my speed on the highway. I like the whoosh, wine, but not the nails down the chalkboard.
Are any intakes out there free or the throttle plate whistle? Would a plastic airbox (JCW/Dinan) be quieter than a metal airbox (M7,Craven,DDM)? Im leaning towards the Dinan for $150, anyone have anything bad to say about it? Anyone experience the whistle? Which remove or alter the firewall?
