THE TUNE HAS FINALLY HAPPENED!
and by eventually I mean 30 minutes ago!!!!
He called me and said the tune was ready so I dropped over. 5 minutes on the genius and the new ecu files were uploaded.
I haven't gotten to drive it much yet, however power is about the same as with the Alta UNIchip I've been running. The power delivery is smoother though.
Chris also said that if we can get some dyno time he'll be able to tweak the tune for me as right now it's a canned tune.

Yup, read and been following, was waiting to hear how I could get this neat little handheld device to tune my car...
and yet again turns out to be another "special user only"
If I can't buy the device, then I need to pay someone every time it goes to the dealer and I need to hide it, or every time I change it.
Really need a real tuning tool, not another one of these.
Why do all you guys think it is so special to tuen a car that one person only can hold the device, and charge you everytime you need to access the ECU?
Have you looked at the way the rest of the world tunes?
I plug a cable into my Subaru's OBD port, read and write with my laptop, takes 5 mins to reflash. I don't even need to leave my driveway.
I don't need to pull my ECu out, put it in a box Fed-Ex it across the country.
This "genius" is the same stuff that is already out there for the Mini.
The fact that it works through the OBD port means some one needs to get motivated to make the existing tools work.
Perhaps I will spend sometime playing with my Mini while I wait for it to sell.

I don't have a boost gauge or datalogger. All I can say at this point is it feels like when I have the unichip installed. Quite a bit faster than stock, but I have no hard numbers from the tune. The unichip gave me more power than a factory JCW has ( I do have hard numbers for the chip).

While I can see your point, I think that type of tuning is still a wet dream for the MINI. At least now there is something we can get that works.
The little handheld device the tuner uses costs 10s of thousands of dollars and you have to be selected/certified by dimsport to get it.

Last time I asked him...no he does not. He's trying something else...
Spend the money on a standalone then? Seems like problem solved for you

A REAL tune needs a laptop or a dyno. Your handheld unit is still nothing more than a "pre-tuned" can in a tune. Much like a hypertech, Superchips, etc, etc.

It will be interesting to see before/after data, long term study, and experiences at the dealer. Got to happen eventually. But if it was simple to tune the R56 it would have been done long ago. No?

As far as other solutions, I don't know anything about the Evotech but the GIAC isn't much of a solution for money spent.... and there though there may be other solutions, there aren't any out there readily available with proven results.
The only item I know that has proven results HP/TQ wise is the Unichip. Unfortunately, it was plagued with unreliability issues.
I'm glad I spent the money on the JCW stage I kit but I'd still like to have something better.
I'm afraid by the time tuners come up with something, a new model year will arrive and the interest will turn to it and leave the R56 out in the cold.
