Performance Upgrade thoughts?

Hello.
I'm going buy some performance upgrades for my MCS. I have been looking for some things for a while and I found some stuff. Would the alta 2.5'' Catback exhaust, Alta CAI, Alta S/C pulley 17% reduction, Brisk spark plugs, MSD coil pack and Spark plug wires make a good setup? What would you guys think the HP numbers would be? I am new here so I don't know if this is in the right category. SRY...

Thanks

Everything sounds cool.. I would skip the MSD stuff. From what I have read it wouldn't make that big of a difference.

Start with the pulley and enjoy that for a while, that is the only thing on your list that will make a difference. And, FYI if you think an aftermarket header may be in your future, the Alta is not a complete 2.5 inch cat back, the opening flange and tubing directly behind it are smaller ID. Not an issue with an OEM header in use, but not the best for a 2.5 inch exit aftermarket header.

I got the MSD coil and wires, but it was just for aesthetic purposes.

My first engine upgrades were Alta V2 17%/Alta V2 Intake/Alta 3" Sportone/Alta CC/and Bosch Fusion plugs. I was impressed but I think I'm gonna switch to Brisk plugs and add a DT BPV to try and smooth things out( it pulls hard but I get a surge around 5k-redline).

Here is what it sounds like

I am going to have to disagree with that statement whole heartedly. Even a 15% pulley, cai, and cat-back exhaust will give you good gains. With those three mods you should be within the 190-200+ whp, depending on how strong your car came from factory. The plug wires are really just cosmetic, dont expect any noticeable difference in performance with them.

The pulley will defintiely give the most noticeable gain with your butt dyno, and the more mods you add the better they all work together to get additional power.

M!N!-ME, I have to say, I'd like to just loop the audio from that clip and let it run for a few hours. Great sounding car, and it would seem to have no problem moving either.

I started with 15% reduction pulley. I do not regret that for my first mod at all. Then for some auditory pleasure maybe try a cold air intake. Have fun.

Thanks everyone, I think I'm gonna go for the Alta CAI, Alta Stealth Catback, and a 17% pulley, then maybe later get an exhaust header and an intercooler But is it good to have a Tensioner Stop?

I think this is a great strategy! However I think the estimate of 190-200 whp with this is overly optimistic. After 3.5 years on this forum, I don't think I've ever heard of anyone getting that much hp out of those mods alone. Maybe with an RMW tune, but that's also on a good day...
That said, you should get 180whp, which is still a whole lot more than stock (remember stock is 167hp at the crank, or about 150 at the wheels.)
I only have one suggestion: forget the IC--it works just fine. Get a bigger scoop yes, get a better diverter (Alta) yes, but keep the IC and spend that money on some wobbly mods (suspension, handling) Did you mention getting rid of the OEM tires?

Definitely agree on the intercooler. After having mine off (installing alta v2 diverter and couplers), I have to say its a pretty nice unit, and along with the consensus gathered from most on this board, it looks to be one of the last things to replace.

Where is a link to RMW's website or RMW's performance parts?
Maybe i'll just skip the IC yes, pretty exspensive, could get much more for that kind of money

Thanks

Which one is better and more worth the money, the Alta stealth or the RMW?
I know the Alta stealth is $699 but how much is a RMW catback? Where can I see RMW performance parts for sale?

Actually, my car made 203whp with just those mods last summer(very hot and humid) at an RMW tuning session. Jan, Tüls, StoopidGirl, and several other regulars on here got to share in my joy too.

I dyno'd my car after each mod I did. With just a CAI the car put down 168whp. Adding the 15% pulley gave me 193whp, and the Stealth exhaust put me at 203whp.

I know this isnt common. I am sure i have a ''Wednesday Car". However, I don't think 190-200 is too unreasonable..neither is the 180whp range.

Which is better the 15% pulley or the 17, because so many have the 15%?

personal preference, 15% is said to be safer and easier on the car in the long run. others go with 17 and 19% to get a few more ponies out of it.

15 is safer, less stress on the Super Charger in the long run.
You will get a bit more kick with the 17 for sure.

I'm at at least 204, on a mustang dyno that is so the numbers are low.
My main upgrades are: Dinan CAI, 15% pulley, Borla Exhaust, RMW Tune, 380 injectors and Denso plugs colder wires..
I will say that I was at higher numbers than a few who even had a header installed...

You’re being misleading. Where did the RMW tune come into play?

Exactly what I was thinking.

I don't think ANY car, whether it be a Monday/Friday car of a Wednesday car, will put down 173 WHP with ONLY an intake.

That would mean you are picking up 23-33WHP (based on an average of 140-150hp that most cars will put down stock) with just an intake. Not gonna happen.

Blow a fan into the IC and you can get some pretty high dyno numbers.
We used to do this at our dyno and see gains of 20 hp. Haa, there were some pretty high numbers that day. I think guys with the above mentioned mods were 190+ . I myself ran a 236! Haaa.

Another long time voice here.

Put on the pulley. Then take the rest of the money and put it in a savings account. Add more till you can afford a head.

The biggest limit to HP on our cars is the exhaust valves on the head. Till you do that, you're gonna leave most of the potential benefit from parts on the table, not spinning the tires.

Matt
