Stronger blowoff valve guts from Audi

Ran into this while putzing around the internet on a 2008 Peugeot 207 RC forum. Some people have experienced some premature failures of their BOV's on "tuned engines" The BOV valve could start to leak boost. Somebody figured out that VW and Audi have similar valves rated for a higher boost. They swap out the innards or rig up an adaptive wire pigtail to adapt the Audi/VW unit. Possible donors - 200hp (VW Golf 5 GTI, Audi TT 2.0TFSI, Seat Leon TFSI, Audi A3 2.0 TFSI) or 265hp (Audi S3 2.0TFSI / Seat Leon Cupra 2.0TFSI).

Moderators:
Can I post a link to the Peugeot forum?
Can I post a link to the Tuner site that has more discussion and more importantly PICS!

Very Interesting!!

I've checked on RealOEM and the factory JCW BOV has a different part no. to the R56 MCS. That may be worth a try

I dont know but what I heard is tha the jcw turbo is different in the inside, the housing is the same.

If the Gti/audi valve works on our car im sure the jcw will be better than the stock ones. For 59 dollars is worth to try it and I preffer to installl a jcw valve than one from Vw.

Slowb00st where did you find those prices???

Yep, here in the UK, the old one up to 09/07 is £52.85 and the new one and JCW one is £27.70.

The JCW one will almost certainly have a stronger spring, but i fear it's probably all plastic construction internals now rather than metal.

Best plan may be to buy JCW one and just use the spring / seal disc ?.

The question i have is, what level of boost / surge does the turbo impeller need protecting from. It's no good putting in stronger internals to the BOV as it's job is to protect the turbo. Now both the JCW tuning kit and factory JCW run the same boost ( different / more efficient turbo internals on factory JCW ) so it could be argued that the factory BOV SHOULD have been upgraded on the tuning kit upgrade. Making it stronger than that may be detrimental to the impeller !!

Any thoughts

I don't know if its possible but if we could get the Pierburg part number and get the difference in spec from them that would answer a few questions.

Why? Are you having problems?

Surely this is only needed when running higher boost than the OEM part was designed for?

Not sure my boost is consistant. And as i stated earlier why has a.) MINI revised the part since 09/07 and b.) beefed it up for the factory JCW. Mine has the JCW tuning kit fitted and the two share exactly the same boost levels.

For £25 it's worth it to take the old one off and share the knowledge here

Today i went to TyrolSport garage ( which specializes in VW/Audis/Minis) to verify this "upgrade". Donor couldnt donate because it was blown, but it came out of MK5 GTI 2.0FTSI, i took it apart and took out stock BOV apart aswell...and it indeed is a plug and play gut transplant. Membrane looks to be beefier then ours, and the sealing O-ring thats on the "hat" of our BOV is very, very small, but VWs "hat" has the O-ring at least 4 times the size.
