Cleaning Alta intake with K&N recharger kit

i have an unused K&N recharger kit and a pretty dirty alta intake - anyone (like say the Alta people floating around here on NAM) have any comments about using this kit to clean a foam filter? thanks

I don't remember where I read this but I don't think it's recommended. Do a search around here, you'll find some reference links.

No. K&N is for cotton filters.

Use the unifilter Service kit/cleaners. They are made for foam filters. try outmotoring.com, ALTA, or call your local motorcycle shop (not Harley).

A number of vendors on NAM sell filter cleaner @ oil for the Alta Filters.
When you get it you will see the the oil for the foam type filter is thicker and has a sticky feel.

Hey folks,

Sorry I am late to the party.

DO NOT USE THE K&N cleaner and oil on a foam filter!

Couple things, the cleaner is WAY harsher than necessary and can damage the foam, secondly the oil is WAY thinner and runs off the foam quickly and just makes a big mess

We of course offer a foam filter cleaner, but you can get them at most any local ATV / Motorcycle store as well. Any foam cleaner will work.

In a pinch you can use simple green to clean the filter and run it dry until you get the correct oil.

Hope that helps and again sorry for not being here sooner!
