K20 in a MINI

Hey guys,
What would it take to put a K20 of some sort into the MINI? I've worked a lot on cars, but have never done anything like an engine swap before.

How does the size of the stock 1.6 compare to a K20...would there be reasonable space (I mean Qvick put the M3 engine in their MINI, but that musta been tight)?

How much work would need to go into manufacturing engine mounts?

Has anyone done something like this before? My search didnt turn up many results for NEW minis with vtecs, mostly just old ones.

Honda engines are too big, I already did the measurements.

I wanted to put a K in a MINI a while ago.

The M3 MINI is a full hand fabricated race car. The only resemblance to a MINI is in the body, and it stops there, nothing else is the same.

with enough money and time you can make the MINI mid-engined with a v10... if one felt so inclined

it has been done in the UK and for the amount of money and work it would be cheaper to go with a RMW 2.0L Stroker which would be PLUG AND PLAY practically

Why a K20 ? There are so many things you can do now to get up to 260+ hp with a fair amount of money. I think putting a K20 and wasting all the money is not a good idea. A good K20 motor with low miles is going to cost you around 4k. With 4k you can get to 270hp easily.

With a little less then 4k, I am at 250whp and 192tq. With about 1k more, I will be at 270whp and around 205tq.

If the K20 is heavier, the weight distribution will be even >f:r and decrease the dynamics of the car. You need to rev the K20 to get the TQ & HP.

M3 engine in a MINI? Wow. That must be a load of work considering one is a FF and the other is a FR.

lol, thats not too difficult. and as checkmate said its been done. from what I have researched on this.. and I have looked into it pretty deep you will need about a 13k budget. is it worth it? hell ya it is! k20 is an amazing powerplant.
you will need a k20a drive by wire, standalone, custom axles, custom motor mounts, and then you will probably be nickle and dimed to death. luckily the k20 bolts in the same as the mini motor. keep in mind putting a motor in can be tricky as you can easily mess up the weight distribution of the car. I would not do something like this by yourself if you dont know 100 percent what you doing. but it will fit, so will the f20 from my measurements

btw.. theres a guy here in san antonio that has a b18 in his mini.

I have one in my Friends Lotus.
Its kinda pointless for a mini. Ill Rape him out of a light till the bastard gose Nuclear and takes off I mean the phrase Over 9000 has never been more Right.
Seriously im not seeing the point is dropping that into a mini for a daily driver.
A Track car? Sure why not. Its just not cheap.
I hand built his motor its 307 hp at 9700 but it cost him close to 9k FOR THE MOTOR ALONE.

lol, this wouldnt make a good daily... for me its perfect as I love a free flowing high reving motor. I also want a motor that is reliable, almost stock, and around 200hp. thats all I want in a motor. the k fits my bill perfectly. I also have a cooper so the difference is much different. If I had an s I would probably look at some of jans stuff as the k20 would be more for fun/awesome than being realistic..

Well, for 10k you could get a 2.0 stroker from Jan...no need to make custom mounts or axles, you'll just have to swap the tranny to the Getrag 6speed but you'd have to swap the tranny anyway with the K20, so...

I have the getrag 5spd, which I still am curious of its capabilities. But I doubt the stroker would put me where I want in all aspects. And by custom axles I dont mean making them. you can still use part of the minis, but you will need the axles from the k20 as well. The other aspect of the swap is motor placement, I want to set it back alittle bit and lower. this is also why my project will require a lot more mula, and I wont be able to do it for a long long time :D dreams

I always wanted to destroke a k20, build the head and see how high it could make power. I'd imagine with a little work you could build a 1.6-1.8L that could turn motorcycle-like revs. Then just tack on a small supercharger to make some torque and enjoy.
