I have just found out that I soon will be in need of two driveshafts because I lowered my Cooper S. My question is does anyone know if the Cooper driveshafts the same as the Cooper S? Also, does anyone know where to source driveshafts for cheap? From the dealer they are something around 450, not really interested in spending that kind of money..

Cooper driveshafts are not the same. In Issue 2 of the NAM Alliance Magazine there is an article from TSW about swapping a Cooper's Midlands for an S's Getrag. In that article is a comparison of the 2 models driveshafts.

Pricewise, check with some of the site sponsors such as Classic and Norristown. They both offer discounts to NAM Members.

 

I am just about to undertake the 6-speed swap finally so I know first hand. The 1/2 shafts are not the same. The Cooper has less splines and the S shafts have oil journals. They are actually 700 bucks retail (each) with a 50 dollar core charge for each. Luckily a buddy on here hooked me up a set of MCS shafts for 200...

There is a core charge on these as well.

Pelican is less then a full list dealer but you can do better at Classic and Morristown usually.
