dual boost

I am considering adding a turbo kit to my "S" and am looking for feedback. I have had hi horsepower cars all my life and would like to bring my MINI into the mid to upper 300 hp range. I already have a new cam, intake, 19% pulley, and chip. It is pretty fast now but would like more. I have heard claims of 400hp with the kit but I am a little skeptical. How will the motor hold up? Will the bottom end take that kind of boost? What about driveability?
Thanks for any and all imput.

i will say it before the jerks chime in ...just search for twurbo or twin charge. I was in the same boat. I'm probably gonna do it myself one of these days. Everyone talks about reliability issues. My suggestion, if you are seriously considering this, do all basic bolt-ons first(i.e RMW head, cam, exhaust, etc..) Then add turbo kit and have a reputable tuner work the numbers for you. just don't push the envelope and try to get 400hp like this. A good 275whp maybe even 300 is possible like this and the engine won't suffer a painful death from leprosy..lol . Reliability becomes a problem when parts don't work together, driver is a maniac and not a mechanic , etc.... There is a guy on here (tuls) who has his own custom twincharge setup. talk to him about it for clarity. I am going the twincharge route cuz I don't track and I want the added power it can give me after the bolt-on route is done without breaking my pocket( at least initially). I just like being able to keep up on the highways here in kuwait. nothing says fun like the look on a persons face when they thought they left you and there is a Mini in the rearview behind them flashing to pass...lol

BTW...I have no RMW parts as of yet, it just seems from my research that they have figured out how to make power with this motor reliable and available. U could always go the cosworth route. They definitely have the european market figured out with no gripes but it may cost a little, may cost alot...but it will damn sure cost u

Danny at MINICORSA has the Most Powerful M45 MINI with 279whp
Kelli's MINI Maleficent is the Most Powerful stock bottom end with 260whp
Longboard - ONE OF A KIND in the WORLD RMW Rotrex SC kit with 299.79999999999999999999whp
both cars have RMW parts. I would definitely stay away from twurbo either go RMW head, cam, header, exhaust, and tune or Turbo-only

it sure would be easier than trying to stuff the big TVS down in there

what alot people don't get is, everyone doesn't want to have stroke a motor, add a bigger blower, do motor transplants, etc,etc....just to get some better #'s. granted from my research on this site, mini2, and talking to quite a few kuwaiti guys here that have some pretty bad *** minis, the twincharge method isn't as bad as most make it out to be, when done properly. In fact, the mini damn sure isn't the first car to have this method tried and proven to work. Its all in what u want, i guess. To me, a car is no good if its only a dog at the track or off the line

I think the problem with the Alta twincharge is the turbo. Thats a big turbo for what they want to accomplish. They could have used a GT28rs or a smaller GT2X turbo and developed a good off the shelf tune to work with for a baseline if u ask me. the GT3071 is a tried and proven big turbo to use on the 1.8T( i have a GT2X eliminator kit on my wolfsburg, suits me fine)

owned....really??? I couldn't tell. I made a statement based off of people that have a twincharged Mini and haven't had problems. The Alta way isn't the only way to do it. There is a guy here in Kuwait with a twincharged Mini(custom) and he luvs it. Here there are alot of custom cars(lambos with nos, supercharged ferarris and my fav a twin-turbo 850csi...etc) I know some older guys back in NC at the every sunday that swear forced induction sucks cuz it ruins a motor(i guess bad experience) but turbos and superchargers still sell in NC....if someone can make it work, why talk down??

I think Jan is just trying to point out that most twincharged minis will explode a stock block, in time.........Jan probably knows as he had a twincharged mini. I dont think hes talking down, hes just been there done that.

It works better than some might think! I had it on my 02 MCS for a long time and it was NUTS. But.....

However, the part isn't as popular as it once was, with Jan coming in with some SERIOUS numbers on other methods. You might want to consider his 2.0 setup vs. the twincharge.

One reason is that the twin charge kit must be tuned locally. However, Jan at RMW kit should be able to be sold and shipped to your APO and work properly. The temps and humidity he can compensate for readily with the DimSport software he uses.

If you do decide to go twincharge let me know and I can happily give you some tips!

Chat soon!

Well Chris, since I was a pioneer of the kit with Hubie and the first Mini to make 300whp then 350-375whp on just the stock system.....

what would you really like to know?

Jan didn't people think you, hubie, and tuls were crazy having a MINI's that were producing 300+whp back in the early years?

Nowadays you are still making people think your silly by making 40-60hp deltas.

Times have changed the M45 is old and crusty. Now the NEW WAVERS for F/I power are the very efficient TVS, Rotrex, and T-only setups. The days of 5hp bread crumb performance parts are over.

Spend the money like all higher performance hungry people and accomplish goals the right way.

well the M45 still holds the record at SOW
I hear what you are saying , we are working on making more performance but trying to maintain stock like driveability. That's something you will never get with the twincharge
