Electric Water Pump

As many of you may or may not know the w/p on the MCS is driven off the rear of the supercharger, The gears that drive it are prone to failure and it robs HP. There has been lots of talk about converting to Electric.
And it is now a reality!
1FastMINI.com will be offering a Electric w/p kit that will include everything need for installation. Will be posting pics soon......

Who makes the pump? Meziere? I know some of the turbo only guys are running them. Expect alot of questions from people who dont know anything about an electric w/p. Your entering a territory you dont want to venture in..... And is this going to be like the carbon fiber beltline?......

I may very well be just like the carbon fiber beltline.

If the cost is too great and the interest low it will not go into production.

As for cost shooting for the 800.00 range.

Hp gain I feel will be small 3-5 maybe. The benefit of the pump will not be the Hp gain, but the fact that you will never have an issue with the w/p drive gears in the s/c and if you do you will be able to install the electric pump kit rather then replacing your s/c.

The pump will be a direct bolt on replacement, and will mount in place of the stock pump. The kit will include a block off plate for the rear of the s/c,
Pump and all hardware.

Not trying to be deconstructive with comment like these, but would it not be cheaper just to buy a new supercharger? Or buy a new pump (I'm not sure if it is sold seperately) from BMW?

From BMW, a new supercharger is WELL OVER $1k. The cheapest option has always been to buy a used one but those range from $200 to $500. Now that MINI has switched to a turbo, low mileage SC take-offs are getting harder to find.

So from what I understand if the gears for the WP in the blower go bad you can skip replacing the blower and just upgrade to an electric WP??

Of course you can just save yourself the headache and swap ahead of time.

Keep us updated please.

That Mezeire w/p is only $350. Where does the extra 500 come from? 2 hoses and mounting bracket?

lets give him the opportunity to layout what the kit entails and pictures to further our understanding and for discussion purposes.

I am looking forward to hearing/seeing more.

Just in time, as my 2nd SC in 44000 miles is starting to make an, unfortunately, familiar noise! What is the estimated time frame to market? From experience, I'm about 2 or 3 month away from failure.
Also, when RPM goes up with the OEM pump, coolant flow goes up proportionally. How does an electric pump replicate that, or does it need to? Just wondering.

Posting pics on behalf of Eddie @ 1FastMINI

Here they are... had an opportunity to see a demonstration today and all I can say is I'm very impressed. Here are some pics I took a couple hours ago... I was only able to take them with my crappy camera built in my cell phone, so I apologize for the photos (Eddie should post betters one later), but at least it gives you guys an idea of the progress... enjoy!

Just curious, because it looks like it has a little weight to it...wondering if that two bolt flange for the block mount is sufficient.

How does an electric water pump work? Does it sense temp and run accordingly or does it always just circulate at one steady rate? Also what kind of longevity is expected on such a unit?

I did not weight it but not too much I'm guessing less then 5lbs.
The flange mount holds it just fine

It runs at a steady 55 gpm. It is rated @ 15,000 hrs.
My car runs 15 degrees cooler with it.

It could be set up to turn on and off at different temps, Eliminating the need for a thermostat.

Looks nice. Is that a "final" unit or still in prototyping?
