Congradulations on your Uni-Unic. I did mine as well but it cost me $70.00US. They had to fabricate an elbow but spent about 45 minutes.

You got a great deal. Best Mod for the money until I get a Magnaflow or an ALTA 2.5.

I just left a muffler place. I gave him the diagram of a "one ball" exhaust. He put my car up and looked and said it would take 2 to 3 hours and cost 300 dollars.

I am just going to save up for a madness catback

Wish I lived in pensacola

You need to find another shop, 30 min and $50 is reasonable.

WOW that is crazy... find another small owned shop, not the big brand name ones.

I am still trying. None of them have any idea what I am talking about. It could be tht I am not explaining it correctly. About to give up and just save for a different exhaust. Thanks for the tips though guys.

Exactly. Well at least I had one place say "bring it by" which I did with the diagram I downloaded from here. Other than that it has been a no go

That's because it is too small a job and they don't make as much money on small jobs. I had a local shop do mine for $80 and they spent about an hour on it being very meticulous to make sure it was well supported and the tips are in the stock location. The materials needed cost about $10. The weldor doing the work was thrilled to work on it and wanted to talk shop about the cat-back he wanted to build now that he had the chance to work on a Mini. He said it was quite easy.

Here's a way to describe it - remove resonator and replace with 2.25" weld-in elbow (or is it 2.5"?). It is very self explanatory once the car is in the air.

FYI: It changes from 2.25" to 2.5" during the bend. The pipe coming back the car is 2.25" the pipe going from muffler to muffler is 2.5". So you end up having to flare a pipe somewhere.

It's not hard stuff for any muffler guy to do. Just type Custom Exhaust into google maps for your area. Call around and take the car by a shop. Someone will be willing to do it for $100 or less.

Excellent and congrats on the 1-ball. So, does it sound ok to you? Most think it is an improvement.

Anybody have experience with Minspeed's R53 Resonator Eliminator (stainless, $125) DIY solution? It uses clamps, no welding.

Accomplishes precisely the same thing. Useful if you can't find a shop to do it for you. I've heard good things about the Minspeed but couldn't justify the additional price and labor involved when the locals can do it faster/cheaper.

+1

I still cant believe the difference it makes. I am a little upset, though my girlfriend thinks im nut but but I can tell the exhaust tips are now a little left of center. They werent like that right after he was finished but now they are. I am trying not to let it bother me........

i got the minspeed part. I could have had a shop weld it without the part, but im more of a do it yourself kind of guy, but dont have a welder at the moment. it worked fine for me.

Mine as well, and we took the time to align the OEM pipes too.

I'm going under the car this weekend and check out hangers and placement and see if further modding is necessary.

The exhaust actually expands when it heats up, and contracts when it's cold.... with the one-ball, this can have the effect of moving the tips side to side some.... may or may not be what y'all are seeing...
