I think with the BMW 135i out now people got excited and thought it was twin turbocharged.

So I take it that with a twin charged setup, you can have the power of a Turbo without losing the supercharger whine. And speaking of sound, do you get the SC whine and BOV sound as well??

I remember early on, a few years ago, many people were experimenting with Twin Charge setups, but seems that this is no longer being done? Does running an SC and Turbo mean its could be less reliable or have two failure points instead of just using one system??

Cool stuff. Good to see someone modding their car and actually taking advantage of the mods on track. I tend to run NASA and CCA events myself with the RX7.

What are you using for video and data acquisition?
Might want to get some in car video with the driver if you want to use it for training.

Its pretty amazing that you can run that lean. I run as rich as 10.5:1 A/F ratios on the RX7 under boost. Need to re-tune and lean out a bit but still won't run less than 11.2 or so under boost.

Are you running water injection or anything?

How is power and traction from a dead stop?

Thanks again for posting the comprehensive results.
The power is excellent from a dead stop. I definitely have to be judicious with the throttle in 1st and 2nd gears...but nothing extreme. However I am running 225-width tires, which helps considerably.

Nice twincharge setup!!
Glad to see one going strong... yea pistons are the weak point, i too have the pic in gallery to prove... Thus a reason to come back stronger =)

Yes, the intent was to not loose the supercharger characteristics. But I must admit that the whine is pretty much overwhelmed by the other sounds. And having both definitely adds more potential points of failure.

But so far I think the pros outweight the cons *in my case*....

I'm using a V.I.O POV.1 digital capture system connected to a small camera head mounted in front of the rearview mirror. It records directly to a SD card. I intend to add additional camera heads for the interior & rear-view when I have time. I can also easily move the camera head position from run-to-run. Or I also have a wireless sytem that works pretty well, but it's much less reliable.

It's hard to see on the graph, but the A/F ratios on the track averaged about 11:1 under boost. I'll try to post a better graph tomorrow if I have time....

And no, no meth or other injection/cooling...

I appreciate the response. I just read a ton of old posts about the TC setups and feel a tiny bit smarter now, lol.

It's very cool what you've done...I'm jealous. =P

Thanks for taking the time to show us!

I fell into the same trap, thought you were saying twin turbo. The Turbo+SC setup is widely known as Twincharge.

I re-edited the original post to help clarify that. Sorry for the confusion.

That setup looks very familiar...
The ONLY one I've ever seen with the welds together like that on the charge pipe and the vac line in across from the BOV...

I swear this is my old kit!!!

Sorry to hear d00d. Which kit is it, then? Or is it custom? Which turbo?

Well I'm not here to share his setup... was just stoked to hear that the kit, or at least parts of it are still in use!!

I was running a complete custom fabbed hybrid Garrett setup with a vb34hifi which was designed for early spool like with the twincharge setup...

If he's still running this turbo, which if he is, SWEET... Its got crazy spool as you can see in the dyno's... should be good for upwards of 450 too... Lets test that

That video system is kinda cool, but for that much money I'd rather have a Chasecam or roll my own.

The wastegate starts to open at around 10psi and is fully open at 20psi (or whatever I set it at). I'm considering changing to an electronic version to have more control.

Good idea. I'll try to make them bigger. Also, you can see bigger versions in my gallery.
