the problem here is that normally the oil feed/return would have been taken from the oilfilter with a sandwich adapter and the cooper oil filter is just a refill. I know some time back someone made an adapter for the R53 would be nice to have something like that for the R56.

But for those that are conserned with warranty/mantainance plan by adding the oil cooler it will be another story...

It would be nice to be able to do it since I have a mocal oil cooler from my previous car would just need to swap a few parts.

I know it's crazy but RMW is finishing up their new oil cooler.

oops, sorry it's for the R53.

this is a link to the stock R56 oil cooler, you can see that there is a external chamber mounted with two rubber o-rings. It should be possible to replace part 4 (heat exchanger) with a remote one.

mini madness has a part that replaces the heat exchanger and connects it to a oil cooler. i was hoping that it was compatible with the r56 but mini changed the shape of the heat exchanger so no dice .

Does anyone have any info on if the stock one is efficient enough? I haven't seen a lot of data on oil temps in the r56, (yeah, I need to get my own gauges). and had up till now assumed the stock oil/water heat exchanger was sufficient.

The stock system is more than adequate for daily driven cars, even with some track days thrown in. In my R53 I never saw temps above 240 F on my track days and never above 210 F when driving around town or in the twisties.

Just make sure you are using a quality oil.

My oil temp on the street hits 225 if I'm driving hard. On the track, 280-300 easy.

The Oil "Cooler" is fed engine coolant. It doesn't really help in keeping oil temps below 200 when your coolant is at 230...

What oil are you running..........

I have never seen temps that high. Highest was maybe 250 F last track day and ambient was 80 F. And I can barely get my oil above 210 F on my "fun" drives.

Factory MINI oil. The temperature differences probably have something to do with that, but it's not localized to my car. Most of the cars out here with 230+ whp are pushing high oil temps. I was also revving the car up to 8250 RPM's at the time, which probably didn't help.

Still seeing 225+ degree intake temps on the street. I'm sure the 118 degree heat doesn't do a whole lot to cool it off...

I have a stock R53 MCS and am at the track at this very moment. Today I was seeing temperatures at the top end of my oil temperature guage in the Chrono Pack (320F). Ambient temperatures are HOT. 95-100 degrees. I definitely need to look into an oil cooler. My engine temperatures looked normal oddly enough.

Give Jan a call. He's working on one. Might be complete now.

On the highspeed track I went to last month I saw pretty stable oil temps in the 250 range. Low speed tracks I'm usually 280+.

I run Castrol 5W-30 from the dealer (We just did our own oil change this weekend). I still would prefer my oil to be a tad cooler. But that is good to know. Thanks a lot!

I run the M7 thermostat and my oil is @ 180-190 degrees when I am taking it easy on the streets. However, once I start pushing the car it gets hotter again so I might either swap it out soon or waite until I buy an oil cooler from RMW.
