Oil catch can information

I am looking into getting one. Does anyone have pictures of what the can atually catches, and at what rate (like 4 oz every 1000 mi, etc)?

None of the information I was looking for turned up in the search, nor was it posted in the sticky.

Search for OCC, the NAM abbreviation for Oil Catch Can.

For $15 and an hour's work, you can increase the efficiency of your intercooler a fraction of a percent, by keeping oil out of it.

Mine (`05) catches about 1/2 oz. every few months. Others get a half-pint in one track day. I'm guessing that the later engines have less blow-by.

This is going to vary greatly depending on driving style and even from engine to engine.
Just be assured that you will catch something and keep it from going into the intake/IC.

My aren't we colorful.........

I mean that the catch can WILL catch the offending oil and vapors. The amount will depend on driving conditions and engine.

A can is can however

a) size will determine placement.
b) a metal can should have a longer life span over other materials.
c) quality tubing is important for the cheap stuff can collapse.

A can is not always a can. Remember that all good inventions come from war and racing .

There are several threads on the subject.

Here is pic of what has accumulated over about 1000 miles on my 2003 58,000 mi. MCS. Probable a couple of mililiters (cc's).

I installed it about a month ago.

Oh, sorry, but the site will not allow me to reload the picture, so please look at my gallery and see the picture.

Steve, email me at oli@myusername.net and i'll host it for you

As for the oil catch can dilemma i'm currently trying to work out the actual effect the oil has on the intercooler, the supercharger and the RON of the petrol

There is very little adverse effect to the IC with the fresh oil coating it......BUT it does get very hot and the oil residue does eventually cook onto the inside of the IC, and IMHO more importantly what is it doing to the SC and intake.
