Looks very cool. Not badly price when you consider the ECU upgrade is only 400.

Are we talking 140 at the Crank or Wheels? Seems odd since the JCW for the Cooper also includes a new head and Cam and only advertises at 145bhp.

For the US owners, their only options are to do a kit like this from Madness, or build it on their own (like myself) I'm curious as to what's making the power here - has to be the chip for the most part. I have the Rogue Exhaust, which didn't make power in the Grassroots Motorsports shootout. I have tested the Green Filter, slight increase in power on the dyno. But they're talking a 25 HP increase here...the JCW kit is really a moot point, we're never going to see it here.

Wow...that is pretty nice...but the main question for me is about CVT compatibility.

Nobody wants to address the CVT issue. No site talks about whether or not the same mods for the 5 speed - CAI, chip, exhaust do anything for the CVT. The only aftermarket guys out there talking about the CVT were Diamond Racing , I believe.

So dandp, the Rogue Exhaust didn't do much on the cooper?
I only ask because I was thinking of getting that too.

I recommend the Rogue. I've had it on for over 16,000 miles now. My car has been on the dyno twice at Helix since I've had it on, but I can't make a comparison to stock. But the car feels more powerful, sounds impressive and it's a nice looking exhaust. Doesn't get the attention it deserves. I can tell you the my car makes more power than a stock Cooper. According to Grassroots, the Rogue really didn't make power - the Helix did the most. But that's a magazine article, and real world driving and impressions are probably more important.

you won't get much power out of an exhaust for the Cooper. So get one that sounds great. I can testify that dandp's Rogue exhaust sounds incredible. If I can get an S exhaust to sound like that (well, and give me some power too), I'm all over it.

Dandp - you already have the Rogue, an intake(?) - just get the GIAC trip. Come on our Helix GIAC chip "meet".

Talking about the exhaust,
I knda like the helix one, because it boast a slight gain in power.
I think I'm correct, going too big with the pipes, you can loose back pressure, which will cause loss of HP at the low end. Being that our cars really don't have that much power at the low end, I don't want to loose any.
I haven't purchased one yet, but I think I'm going with the Helix.

The ECU claims to have a 10 HP gain, at least that's what MINI-Madness claims.
I thinking real hard on that one too!

My next mod is the ECU, will be going down to Helix when ready to get the GIAC chip. I will have my intake issue solved fairly soon as well. If Madness claims 10HP with the chip, where is the other 15 hp coming from? From my experience, the Twister doesn't add that much HP, and the Rogue may or may not. What I will say is that adding an exhaust and intake will give you more low end power, and a more aggressive sounding Cooper. My hope is that the ECU is the "silver bullet" for the Cooper. A bolt on turbo is too risky for my personal tastes.

Wouldn't touch a turbo w/ a 20 foot pole. The tranny would be toast. Next issue re: chip- what about warranty? Seems like a pretty important thought to me, and since the ECU is critical to all engine performance, I can't imagine MINI supporting it if they're not doing the work (ie. the JCW for the S). Once my warranty has expired, I may very well look into chipping my Cooper, but probably not until.

I have 2/3rds of the package already. The Rogue exhaust is a great sounding exhaust. I don't think it adds a great deal of power, but you can really feel a "kick" at 4,000 rpm's that isn't there with the stock. I have tried the pipercross kit and the twister. The pipercross delivers above 4,000 rpm, and the green twister in my opinion adds a bit more torqu at about 3,200 rpm.

Curious about the chip.

The rogue and the intake make a snappier mini, and great sound.

Andy

The ECU will void the warranty without a doubt. Another question I would have - will MINI still do no - charge maintainence 3 yr / 36,000 miles with an ECU upgrade? What is their take on aftermarket intakes and suspension work? I've had some recent warranty work done - nothing was said about my tires or suspension. But a scheduled service might red-flag the ECU.

I think that the MINI dealers won't even look at the ECU when servicing your car.
there's no way to tell visually. the only problem you may encounter, is when you pick the car up and they tell you that they have upgraded your software.
You can insist that they don't upgrade the ECU when you drop it off, that would be a red flag.

checking out the ECU remaps, most of them will reflash it for free, if this happens to you.
All you would have to do is pay the shipping.

Also I like to add, I also own an "S" which I have the PowerChips
upgrade installed by Randy.
The upgrade makes the car more responsive, and the overall attitude of the car is better. So I think that the ECU remap for the Cooper would help it alot.

This really makes me wonder, I already have a K&N Typhoon, London Stainless Manifold, Helix exhaust and the MSd coil(s) and wires. What would I get with the ECU? With what they are talkning about I should be around 145-150. Not too bad for dropping a mint into a Cooper I still think the Cooper looks SOOOO much better from the front end than the S
