My service engine light came on today...

My car just got its 10k mile service last week, is there anything they could have done that would trip this?

Is there any way it could be caused by my intake? I know on cars with MAF sensors, that a filter type that you oil can mess with the sensor, and cause it to throw a check engine light code. I don't know anything about MAPs, so I don't know if this is possible.

What kinds of things should I check before I call the dealer and have it towed 3 hours away.

The car is running perfectly normal.

Can anyone help, or offer some good advice?!

Did you call your dealer? Mine came on a month ago, I phoned the dealer, and was told that it would be alright to drive it in to them...until they found out that it WAS NOT running right...they told me to go ahead and call MINI RA. It ended up having the engine wiring harness replaced.

Best to let them decide...

Well you convinced me to call them.

since the light is yellow, and i guess not red(?), the service advisor said to 'reseat the gas cap' oddly enough, and then drive it through the weekend. If the light doesnt go off, to call them back.

Anything else I should check??

You stated that your car was just in for its 10k service. Its possible that the dealer forgot to reset your service interval odometer and you just passed the original mark.

I've had my 'Service Engine Soon' light come on twice in the last week!
Both times I noticed nothing in the way the car ran or performed...
The fault code both times was an evap leak!
I'm not too engine censor saavy but from what the service guy explained,
that meant that somewhere in the fuel line or tank that there was a leak.
This is not to be confused with a fuel leak.
The first time they checked it ot and reset the censor.
The second time they checked more thoroughly and noticed that I had a disconnected hose leading to a carbon filter.
I don't know if this info helps you at all cause until they plug it in to get the fault code there isn't a good place to start...

safe motoring,
Ryno

very good thought, but I think it was def reset because it says the next service is in 15k miles....

Miniryno, any info is good info as far as I'm concerned. thanks for helping. Hopefully it is something small.

If anyone knows about MAP's could they share?

One thing I did notice is that water definitely gets into the intake tube.

and since my new tube doesnt have the cloth section to soak up water, I wonder if water cant make it all the way to the engine....

Anyone with the green twister, or similar intakes, check the tubing after a heavy rain, and the little metal peice inside the tubing will have surface rust spots....

water in the intake set off a service engine light, possible?????
