Drivetrain Dimsport tunning
Dimsport tunning
I've been searching the forum for threads about getting a custom tune for my car and from what I've seen Dimsport is the way to go. However is it possible to get ahold of the Dimsport stuff to do a tune on my own?
I see that there are a couple of places that can do it in the US, like RMW and LDG but do I even have the option of doing it on my own. If so does anyone know of the costs involved, like possibly having to be set up as a dealer for Dimsport, etc?
Thanks
Marshall

OR you could just ask Jan since he just set up all of his stuff not too long ago...He can tell you how much a licence and all that cost.

It's more than $8k...
I was at SEMA and the "show special" was about $12k down from $15k or so. And that's for most of what you need. You still need to buy a "checksum" per car. But that's not much per car, and you only need to pay once.
For the price you pay, you get thier interface and software. The interface does some encryption, so you can't reverse enegineer what they do. Once you have the binary into thier software, then you get to do your magic, but they don't tell you what table to change or what. Also, DimSport doesn't know all the bits of the whole binary, so you only get to play in the parts of the playground that they've decoded, unless you have the ***** to play in the "full binary" area, where you take your chances with what mess you can make!
Really, it's a solution tailored for shops, not for individuals. Sad, but true.....
Also, there's another Italian company called Alien Tech that does similar, but I honestly don't know if who has decoded more of the Mini binary. Also, Alien Tech doesn't yet have US distributors....

I really don't understand what the big deal is...it's not like he's giving away his tuning secrets...OK, For example, I'm an Amsoil dealer. If somone was interested in becoming an Amsoil dealer, then why now ask me on how to do it??? See what I mean? Come on fella's lets stop the bantering already.
That is nothing like giving blueprints away.
It's like I have my own NAM groupies

I meant the above statement to be taken as, that you should make the potential competition look "harder" to find their answers. If I wanted to become an Amsoil dealer I would not ask you. I would get the info from Amsoil...that is where I am coming from...
Blue prints to a head-if anyone has access to an expensive plotting machine, then that would be stealing of coarse, but YOU would have to figure out how to interpret all of that info and what not...see what I mean now?
I am not trying to start another war, just giving my opinion...
I am not against you Johan, I am sorry for any harsh feelings

If someone is interested in becoming a authorized Dimsport dealer they should get in touch with the US representative for the Dimsport product line. That person is Emile and the name of his company is Vitesse Pro. The contact info is: http://www.vitessepro.com/

What's interesting...
is that Dimsport isn't the only game in town, in Europe there are even more options than have been listed in this thread. Why they aren't "crossing the pond" more is just beyond me.

True, it would be interesting to see if anyone else has mapped the ECU further then Dimsport.

I wish AccessECU would work out the BMW/MINI ECU. Standalone USB/OBDII programmer and you can get canned tunes, buy their 'Street Tuner' DIY package or visit a 'ProTuner' equipped dealer for a custom tune. Real-time map switching overlayed on a basemap. Valet mode, 93+ octane maps, etc.
AccessECU started for Subaru's, now on to Nissan/Infiniti VQ cars, the EVO and Mazda.

Emil at Vitesse Pro has tuned a bunch of Minis with various different setups using Dimsport. Email him your mods and he can tune your ECU if you send it to him.
Its always an option!
I was talking about those of us who are unfortunate and out of the Jan tune zone
I am considering a trip down to Cali this summer to get a tune. 20 or so hours there and 20 something hours back is a long haul...I used PGT's quote earlier because a stand alone system would be awesome
